What are the advantages/disadvantages of composite blades? I am eyeballing the ZT 0560 CBCF with S110V/14C28N composite blade.

Advantage is you get a great blade steel for less cost since only the edge is the premium steel and not the whole blade..It also looks nice when companies use this to make cool designs in the mending of the 2 steels.. I can't seem to think of a disadvantage of it since its being made by ZT/Kershaw and they have been making composite blades for over 10 years now and have it down pat. Only Disadvantage I see in this knife is it is a Limited Edition and many won't use theres...

For my money a CB has no functional advantage over solid 1-piece powder metallurgy stainless steel. Rather, aesthetics are the name of the game. Same as raindrop damascus or exotic scale materials.

Biggest advantage that comes to mind is cost, for reasons already stated. Functionally, I can't think of any real disadvantages. Maybe if you were to break the blade and had to re-profile it, you might end up with some of the "regular" steel on the cutting edge (although the Sandvik steel is still pretty good). Same thing if you sharpen it a LOT, you could eventually work through to the other steel.

Price is one, like they said above. Another advantage is you can have a more flexible spine but have a harder more brittle cutting edge. So you get the tougher steel along with a great edge retaining steel.

The 0560CFCB is going be be very hard to get unless you got on the list early.
