I have a strop and I have green, black and white. What order are these colors?

black, then green should do it for stropping. White?, not sure where that fits in.

I am not sure if black or white hard enough to work on steel - most of jeweler compounds for silver or gold etc and only green for sure can work on steel and even glass.

I use only green (chromium oxid) and it is more then enough.

Thanks, Vassili.

Black is also called emory compound. The progression is black, green, white and then red if you really want overkill. Red is jeweler's rouge. It is used to polish gold and silver and other very soft metals. I've also read that users of straight razors will finish stropping with red.

For a knife strop, green by itself will work fine.

No, I don't carry a knife that you can't shave with. I just can't figure out what's the deal around here about stropping lately. Do you have a future as a barber?
