Compound on a stone?

So I have an old ark stone I have used for 25+ years. Its been flattened, roughed, cracked up and USED a ton.
I have been thinking about coating it with mt Herbs Yellowstone compound to give it a little more cutting power, as its back to damn near glass smooth again, and applying compound is easier than scraping it again.

On one of my Translucent stones I applied diamond grit in mineral oil. This will pick up it's ability to cut a little quicker and more steels. Just reapply after sharpening about 6 knives to maintain it at this level. DM

You will need to use a similar size compound and use it in suspension on the surface as you sharpen. I would recommend CBN compounds for this.

If the stone is glazed then just throwing some compound on it is not going to help it.

What have you been using one the stone? Oil, water, dry?

First thing is first i would flatten it with either a diamond plate or silicone carbide powder. Then it comes down to what you have been using on it. Theres both oil and water based cbn options available. 4u plays well with surgical black arkies. You can go finer if you have texturised the surface finer as well. 2u or even 1u. Coarser if its a coarser arkie of course.

I just use really soapy water on mine and have never had a problem. I know of someone who swears by simple green on arkies. I still prefer (rather soapy) water.

I would not reccomend any "bar" or wax based mystery compounds. you run the risk of ruining the stone and i dont really reccomend them in general to begin with.

Works just fine, you don’t need much just scrape a bit on the stone and make a slurry with a few drops of mineral oil.

Finish by stropping on the Yellow Compound on leather or cardboard strop.

Wash the stone with Simple Green when done, won’t hurt the stone, worst case you have to lap it, but I doubt it.
