Just wondering what is the best compound to use for a bench grinder buffing wheel for final polishing? What do you use?

I guess it depends on what you are polishing, but red rouge is typically what I would use for final polishing of brass, or steel. There are plenty of polishing/compound charts on the web, describing what is best to use for various materials.

It entirely depends on what you're buffing. Different compounds for different finishes on different materials.

I am just thinking to mirror polish the faces of scandi bevels, for fun. Other, less substantial bevels are easy to mirror polish with very high grit stones and a strop, but I find it hard get the whole grind face using stones with most scandy grinds, which always seem to be a little bit hollow.

For that you may like black emery compound. In compound terms it's considered "coarse" but it's excellent on steel and makes following up with a finer compound very effective. What mechanism are you using for the polishing?

Just a 6" Ryobi grinder. One fast speed.

A variable or slow speed grinder is best. Using 4" wheels will slow the surface speed down some, but don't give much working surface.
