Seeing the Lil' Native is getting the comp lock treatment, I am wondering if at some point we might see the same thing with the Manix 2. It already went form a back lock to the ball bearing lock, and while I love the Manix 2 as is and the comp lock would likely be a bit less strong than the ball bearing lock, the comp lock it my favorite because it is so easy and enjoyable to use, and it is plenty strong to boot. As it stands, some days the Manix is my favorite folder and others it is the PM2. I find myself buying too many of each...

Maybe just go ahead and offer the standard model with CTS-XHP too. A guy can dream...

I like the ball lock.
Not saying it would be phased out, just that there might be options like with the Lil' Native. Doubt it will happen, but I think it would be pretty popular.

I am ambivalent about the comp lock, but giving us a lightweight in XHP, as you suggest, is a great idea.

I could get behind that. I prefer the compression lock to the ball bearing lock, not by much, but preference is preference. And I much prefer the Manix 2 to the PM2.

I have the XHP ManixLW and it is a great knife!

I am a fan of the compression lock myself but tend to favor locks with a bias towards closing if I have a choice. The CBBL has this feature and I appreciate that.

I do not find the cbbl any less pleasant in use than the comp lock. They both offer easy free falling closing with one hand.

That said, if this is what people want and if Spyderco can sell them than I am all for it.

The comp lock wouldn't adapt easily to the LW Manix. On the G10 version, that'd be a fun variation to see.

Compression lock Manix 2 ?
I would settle for a bit lighter spring in the ball lock.
Think 940 ease of release.
I recently read a mod where a person put two light springs one inside the other to acheive this.
Omce you go from the ball lock to the 940 or Griptillian axis ease of use one thinks 'why do we need all that spring rate in the Manix ?'.

It would be cool but I like the fact that the BB is a fix in the Manix line. The PM2 is Compression lock and Manix is Ball Bearing. I like the seperation.

I agree. For me, I love the comp lock because it is so easy to use. I can disengage the Manix one handed, but not nearly as easily as an axis lock. I do still prefer the ball bearing lock though in the sense that my understanding is the spring is more durable than an omega spring, adn I have had a few of them break on me. I am going to have to check out the mod you mentioned.

I'd consider it a step back, personally. I prefer the ball bearing lock.

Actually, what I want is a ball bearing lock PM2! :p

That's my fault, and I accept full and sole responsibility. I find the combination of tip up only carry and weak/non-existent closing bias a recipe for blood loss, and stated as much when the first ball bearing locks came out years ago. I don't carry any of them, I don't carry any of my Axis lock folders and I wouldn't welcome a weaker spring on the CBL for that reason.
