Compression lock Military?

Hi Keith. Nothing in the works at this time. The Military is a very highly refined model with probably one of the most reliable linerlocks available.

We'd like to see reaction to the compression lock on the
Paramilitary for a while before considering changing what is currently a winner as it is.

The liner lock and ergos of the Military are excellent - it's a winner and a classic in those regards.

I'd like to see the structural improvements of the Para incorporated into the Military - the second nested liner, the stronger locking liner, the thicker G10 scales and elimination of the backspacer in the Para are real improvement over the construction of the Military.

The only thing I'd like to see in a Military is the replacement of that single backspacer with those cylindrical ones they use at some models (Salsa, for instance). No dual liners needed IMO.

I would be EDCing a Para now if it had a Military style liner lock.
Oh BTW Dialex,I may be wrong here but I think if someone did not want the spacer it can be but back together with out it.The spacers you are talking about are inside the FRN spacer that is used, all you would have to do is slide them out and reinstall the round spacers leaveing the FRN piece out to get what you are after.

I understand that many people are very happy with a liner-lock Military. There are so many excellent reviews.
However, I do believe that there are also good reasons to make an advanced Military, with either a compression lock or with some of the 'misterious locks' (kidney lock, 'T' lock, ...) which are developed. But, let me talk about compression lock only, since I do not know anything about the other ones.

1. I remember a thread where it was said (Sal?) that there were plans to improve an original Military's liner lock to the SekurLock, one finds in the Centofante Jr. That was a great idea IMO, but probably would had led to a rather high price (my guess). Anyhow, the SekurLock would significantly improve security and reliability, especially in doing a heavy duty job.

2. It is clear that the security and reliability of the present liner lock is very high by any standards. However, I have noticed, very rarely, reports of a sudden lock failure (a very few, indeed).

3. I have a very positive experience with my Lil' Temperance, and, no doubts, a compression lock is a winner. So, I am dreaming about a Military with a comp. lock.

4. The reason for introducing a CompLock in Military is obvious from what I said above. Against? Maybe an additional liner would increase a weight, but it could be reduced using skeleton liners. Besides, there is no need to reach MBC lock rating, because we need a LIGHT folder. A CompLock would increase a price - probably not significantly (ParaMilie is in the same price range as Milie).

5. One thing to think about IMO is the following: I found enough threads at the Forums where people decided to buy some BM Axis knife only because Axis lock is superior to liner lock. And, many of them acknowledged a Military being better in other aspects!

These comments are made bona fide. They could be quite wrong, of course, since I am not an expert.

I just switched the big ugly spacer out on an older BM mini AFCK and it's awesome. Looking at the Military, the spacer looks to be about the same size, although I stripped one of those little screws that are in it. :( I think the carbon fiber standoffs I made for the AFCK would work in the Millie, but won't know for sure until I try. If someone has a couple of extra screws that are used on the Millie and the CF that I have will work, I'd be up for trading a couple of CF standoffs for a couple of screws.

I'd also like to see a Military model with a compression lock. Call me crazy but I would really love it if Spyderco would make a compression lock folder with a Military blade and a stainless steel handle.... I'm not really obsessed with light-weight knives like most people and I actually like the feel of a heavy knife in my hand. If it had a stainless steel handle I guess it would need to be named something else since military gear is generally designed to be as light weight as possible.

Well, to keep with both my non-sensical attitude and an armed service, we could call it a
Coast Guard,"Help's ya sink, in the drink!"

On a more sensible note, yeah, I wouldn't mind a Mil variant coming out with a compression lock. I know some people don't like 'em and some do...so, mebbe as Bodieism said, it could have a different name. Although he said it with the understanding he meant after a SS handle was added. I just mean...a parallel run...same bat knife, different bat-lock. or spider, as you will...

personally, i carry the para because it does have a compression lock.

Personally, Im not crazy about liner locks. Ive been torturing myself over a replacement for my EDC, and I could say without a doubt that if the Millie had a "axis" type lock and a universal clip placement it would have taken me about five seconds to decide. At the very least they would make a superior knife even better. It's been about 6 weeks since I decided to replace my current EDC with no end in sight, but im sure I'll figure it out.
