Compression Lock Military?

Does anyone know if Spyderco has plans of making a compression lock military? I like it's size better than the para military 2, but will end up purchasing a para 2 because I'm not too fond of liner locks. I'm not in a rush to buy (within a couple months due to dropping 2k on gun&ammo. Anyway I would like to see one even if I had to wait for it.

None. The next version of the Military will have the "stop lock," but there is no timetable for that knife, according to the man who would know best.

I wish it was out now! I want a bigger version of my Para 2 with tip up! :(

I mean this in the nicest way possible and am not being snarky, but do you own a military or carry one? I'm curious because I've EDC'd one for the past 5 years. Literally every day of the year, there is a military in my pocket and I can't fathom carrying it tip-up. For me, ergonomically, it doesn't seem right. Not judging. Just curious.

I agree. For knives that long, tip down just works for me.

I believe Sal has said before that they have no plans for that. And as Jnewell said.

In another thread I explained why I won't buy the regular Military, or ANY tip down only knife for that matter, no matter how good the detent. I took about a 1cm deep stabbing to the leg standing up in a movie theater a couple years back while carrying a knife tip down. It happened when I threw my weight forward to start to stand, the blade was open in the pocket and dug its way into my thigh. Left a nice blood stain on the jeans. Since then I've straight up sworn off knives that I can't decide how to carry for myself.

Fair enough.

I carry knives both ways. Tip up and tip down. I am curious and have wondered to myself, if my tip up knife opens in my pocket how will I close it without risking cutting my fingers? The blade will be open and facing the opening of my pocket. So to use my fingers is gonna be a bit dicey. With tip down, on the other hand, if the blade opens in my pocket it is a simple matter of just running my thumb or fingers down the spine of the blade and it will close safely. So, for me, tip down seems a bit safer.

With tip up front pocket carry, the blade can't open because it's against the pocket lining at the edge of the pocket. If you back pocket carry, then tip down would be a good way to go. But I hate back pocket carry. I've destroyed pocket clips doing so, plus it just isn't comfortable to me personally.

That's how I do it, and when I carry in the back pocket too, like I am right now it's in my left pocket on the left side. (it can't open)

I tip down carry my military's because its easy to grab the spydie hole and whip out the handle to open the knife fast. I reach in top of my pocket and the hole sits right there to pull on needing no other part of the knife to touch to remove from pocket.

Back on topic,....I want a Millie with a compression lock and four way pocket clip. Call it a Paramilitary 2 XL or whatever you want, I'm all in. Go ahead and make the new Military with the stop lock and I'll buy that too.

Are there any new pictures of how the stop lock works? I read the patent but it looks like a lock back with the lever raising up out of the back of the handle. This seems kind of awkward to operate so I'm assuming I'm looking at it wrong.

The thing I love about the Compression Lock is that it works like a liner and doesn't require any springs. If the stop lock requires springs, it won't necessarily be a deal breaker but I'll still consider the Compression Lock better for my personal taste if it does.

I do like the compression lock, and would definitely buy a Millie with a compression lock. I think a compression lock Millie would be a big hit.

To those fellas explaining about tip up carry, thanks. I had not thought about the edge of my pocket keeping the knife closed. But, for the most part you are right. That is, unless your knife somehow slid over a bit on your pocket edge. Which mine has done a time or two. I guess then all I would have to do then is slide the knife back against the side of my pocket. Aaaaah, problem solved. I had wondered about all of that. And you fellas explaining it gave me one of those "oh yea, makes sense" moments. Thanks.

Only the patent drawings, as far as I know.

Just an observation from being on the forums a long time. Every carry option, tip up, tip down, someone has been cut. If the tip up knife moves forward, either by bumping into something, carrying something that pushes it forward, it slowly opens, you put your hand in your pocket and surprise. This has happened.

Tipup, tip down, no matter. Its personal preference. In the other thread I did a video showing why I believe for the designed use with gloves it is perfect, though options to the customer would be beneficial.

A simple search STOP LOCK Patent should give a few threads where one can find the link.

No time frame, no news, it will run side by side with the current military. That's all folks :)

I, also, don't like liner locks.

OTOH, I did have a PM2 on my last knife order. I took it out because I'd already ordered 5 Spydercos that week. They were a CBBL, a compression lock, 2 back locks, and a liner lock for a friend.
