Hello,

I got a Gunting and I have noticed that it's much more easy for me to close the Gunting with my left hand rather than my right hand.

With my left hand I delock with my index keeping the knife in a secure grasp and with my right hand I use my thumb and my grasp is much more weak.

Now I would really enjoy a reversed compression lock (i.e. a lefty one ! ;-D )

cheers,
JM

Hi Nemo,

I'd bet that Sal and BRAM are already in New York for the Custom Knife Show. I can say however, that the Gunting has a "Reversed Compression Lock" as per BRAM's special request.

All other Spyderco knives that will use the Compression Lock, like the Vesuvius and Temperance, will get the regular version.

See the scans below for comparisons:

I have receive an email from Bram which explain to me how to close it à la Bram way.

let me read with a deep low voice à la James Mason:

"Hum hum! ...keep your hand on the knife and DO NOT MOVE your index finger..then using
your thumb,disengage/close it..pushing INTO your hand with your opposing
digit is the strongest human motion....
It is NOT easier to close with your left..that's liner lock reation..cause
everyone is so used to pushing with their thumb to disengage a liner..."

Me: "Aaaaah! Ok ok ok ok ok ok ok !
aaaaah!
Aaaah: I see !
Aaah!
Holala C'est fantastic !

Bon! I figure I was holding the Gunting horizontally and when I held it vertically, it's change all !

Anyway I do trust Bram for it researches and experimentations on the Gunting. He got much more brainstorming and real using of that knife than us...

Also Vince and Sal were with him night and day. For almost 24 monthes !!!
Sleeping together !!!
Menage à trois !!!
Ohlala c'est formidable !

So we can trust these three musketeers to provide us a formidable blade !

Nemo: I just read this post by back pasting into it..LOL..
ahh yup Sal, Vince and me..yup what a trio..only you got to add PJ into the picture..LOL!

Yes, close it VERTICAL...as you are still engaging the knife..it's really in your hand to be used..
When the GUNTING blade closes onto your first finger (index finger), you have several choices..
NOOO the cut out choil comes onto your finger..ONLY if you don't bail out and move it...and you DO NOT-WILL NOT GET CUT...
Peter moved his index finger and then it cut his middle finger...aaaauuuuggghhhh!
DON'T RELEASE YOUR GRIP ON THE KNIFE..

1) snap it back open with inertia
2) rotate it horizontal and close it off your body or with your thumb
3) re-open it off your body or with your thumb
4) open it off the opponent with the blade, a cutting opening...OUCH!

OK??
Happy New Year!!!!!

Happy New Year Bram!

Yes, now I can close my Gunting at the speed of wound !

JM
