Comprssion lock (para vs. yojimbo)

On my paramilitary there is a cutout on the blade tang that the liner sits in to keep the blade closed.

On my yojimbo - there is a cutout - but it doesnt appear to be used. The liner keeps the blade closed by pressure - not by sitting in that cutout.

Any reason for the different implementation of the compression lock. I have to say that the Para feels smoother and more secure when closed.

no one has any idea? The Yojimbo tends to open the slightest bit in my pocket at times - and the part that is exposed is that needle tip. I already have a few puncture marks on my hand :(

My Yojimbo is the exact opposite: The detent holding the blade closed was quite strong right out of the box -- quite a contrast to my smooth-opening Dodos, or even my Chinook II.

My Yojimbo also had some vertical play right out of the box, so I sent it in to be fixed. They not only fixed the play (yay!) but if anything the detent is even stronger than it was before. I actually wish mine was a little easier to open...

The tang cutout holds my Y's blade shut.

If it doesn't, send it back to Spyderco W&R immediately. :(

Ouch! That’s one point I wouldn’t want to get poked with!

On my Yojimbo, the liner does fall into the cutout in the tang, but just barely. It definitely doesn't engage as strongly as other compression locks I've seen.

any chance one of you guys could take a picture of the lock on your Yojimbo when closed? I don't see how the liner could fall into the cutout at all - its in the wrong area.

I think these were indeed early "slips" the detent on mine is strong but too late. The blade can open a bit before it is stopped by the detent. The tip isn't really exposed but if you run a finger over the handle you tip WILL catch. I guess they could replace the blade, but mine is numbered, so I don't really want to do that. I ordered a later black one for a friend of mine and the detent is right on target.
