My computer has been acting up recently. When I go into windows- My documents, I get a whole bunch of empty tabs at the bottom of the screen rather than just the one document that I clicked on. When I close and open them I get the one that I want eventually, the text is there but office assistant is gone- I mean like gone like Don! , and the program seems clunky.

Sometimes the machine freezes and unfreezes and my internet connection is real slow at times and I have high speed.

Problems started showing up on my email outlook express recently as I can nolonger switch identities, and emails don't come through except on one. The gmail account seems fine.

I run AVG anti virus and the scan comes up clean.

I also ran the free Avast it found nothing. However with the Avast scan it came up with 3 notices of files that it could not scan in the temporary internet files? I wonder if the issue is in their. I just dumped them all and right now it seems okay, but time will tell.

I went to microsoft and ran their bug scans and nothing came up.

So I am open to any other ideas of how to handle this.

Was the avast scan a free scan online because you are not supposed to have more than one virus scan installed at one time.It sounds as if your office may be the problem may want to try and reinstall or repair it. Also you can try running a couple of Malware programs I use Adaware and spybot you can get them for free.

I got some advice to try using Dr Web Cure It. Doing a scan right now and so far it has found DLOADER.Trojan. Yesterday I did a Microsoft scan and it found over 200 megs of temp files that needed to be deleted. Seems strange since the PC is only in use for an hour or two each day, and I just did a disc cleanup about 10 days ago, why so much garbage on the PC in such a short time? Maybe this trojan thing I hope.

That's exactly what it sounds like. Make sure your firewall is blocking those trojan viruses from contacting the internet while you research solutions. The main function of most viruses is to access the internet and install even more viruses, advertising, and spyware to your computer. And all of those in turn do the same thing, multiplying rapidly. Can bring even the best machine to it's knees...

I've been removing viruses from friends' computers quite a bit lately. The crap seems to be increasing. One quick way I've discovered to track down problems, view the files in /Windows and /Windows/System32 in the order of Modified. Look for files that have been added recently, especially those added around the same time as when the trouble started. A google search for the suspected file names sometimes turn up information related to exactly which virus has infected the computer and how to remove.

Good Luck!

Bob I am going to try what you just outlined. After I ran Dr. Web cure it, I downloaded a trial spyware cleaner called True Sword. The trial version only gives the user 10 single uses. It also found a trojan called Gaster, while Dr Web found Dloader. The machine is running better, but its still buggy.

I am wondering if anyone has bought the full version of True Sword, and if it works as well as the trial as it was easy and quick to use.
