Surfing in places I probably shouldn't have been, I found myself with viruses galore. Norton was going off right and left, and my screen background was flashing weird colors. I ran the Norton and it took care of most of it. I also ran Adaware and Spybot. Lots of nasty things found and deleted, but some keep coming back. Installed the Beta Microsoft spyware thing and it helped some too. I had the aboutblank homepage highjacker also, but seem to have fixed that. One thing that still exists, is some banner on the top of my screen that keep dropping down and says, "Your computer is infected. Press here for help!" Anytime I get even close to the top(like to minimize or maximize, it drops down that message). :( Also, my Norton Antivirus is unabled, and it won't let me enable it. HELP!

Unplug from the internet ,reboot and run them again. stay unpluged till you fix her up so no back door trojan and set you up . Good luck

Turn off System Restore. Start Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

Boot to Safe Mode, normally pressing F8 as the computer boots. Run Adaware, MS Antispyware and your AV Program. Reboot back to Safe Mode and run Panda Online Scan. This program is very thorough and also scans every e-mail and AV quarantine folders.

Reboot and turn System Restore back on and make a Restore Point.

If you still have any problems, post back and we'll go into MSCONFIG and the Windows Registry 'Run' entries.

Goodmanfj:

The connection to the Internet is not the problem although it is preferable to run scans when not connected. Infections which come back are not caused because the computer is connected, but because the virus on the computer hard drive has reinfected Windows. A lot of Trojans and Malware are 'self protecting'. The program's assigned name changes dynamically with each infection. The program is run from the registry using the HKEY Local Machine/Software Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run command. Once deleted at a normal boot it comes back. Running the scan in Safe Mode only allows programs to run that are neccessary for Windows to run, along with basic video drivers. There is a better chance of deleting the files and folders without them runing in the background of a normal boot up.
