Computer just died.....

My laptop just died has all of my emails, preorders etc in it

Hopefully It can be fixed. However I might be offline for several days while it is down. I'll post more when I can

What do you mean when you say "died"? HDD failure or other? If HDD, but it is still spinning, you might want to try SpinRite for an attempt at data recovery before writing it off and pitching it in the trash. That program has worked wonders for me several times over the years. Runs on freeDOS which it loads on boot up.

"SpinRite is self-contained, including its own bootable FreeDOS operating system. It can be used on any operating system and any file system. This means it can run on drives formatted with Windows XP's/Vista's/Windows 7's NTFS and all other older FAT formats (in addition to all Linux, Novell, and all other file systems.)"

More as in it won't boot. I did get it going again able to save a lot to my backup hard drive. But then it shutdown again. Going to have the techs check it out on Friday. Hopefully it can be repaired so I can at least get all of my emails off. The hard drive appears to be unaffected from what I can tell
Luckily I have most of my stuff ( except emails ) saved offsite with Carbonite so I won't lose much. Hate to lose my emails though.
 
I don't know what kind of computer you have, but I feel VERY CONFIDENT in saying, "If you try a Mac next time, you will have far fewer issues." ;):p
 
Computer is in for repairs. Please be patient for a couple of days why the repair takes place

Sorry for your troubles Eric. My IT buddy keeps telling me to get a hard drive and back my stuff up...... do I listen?

On a more positive note I finally received my RatManDeux LE and its a fantastic knife. By happy coincidence I got no. 169 and the last two digits are the year I was born. Unfortunately the Buy Brown sheath I got for it is a little too small but I'm sure David will sort that out.

As cheap as hard drives are these days, it's completely worthwhile to mirror all this information. If it won't boot it could be one of dozens of problems which aren't related to the hard drive, so hopefully it's just a matter of backing it up. Either way hopefully you can get on your feet quickly.

I'm back baby....well almost. A little more work to get some things put back together but it appears my computer problems are over for now.
