My monitor died last evening. Can they be repaired? A new one is well over $100 that I don't want spend.

I'm still proud of my dagger from Eskiltuna Sweden.

The cost to repair it will likely be more than the cost of a new one.

I'm betting your old monitor was a CRT (big and clunky)? Newer LCD monitors (flat screen) seem to last forever.

Check out used LCD for cheap. Or go to the dump. You will find a pile of free CRT monitors. Serious.

Not worth repairing.

Either go buy a used one, or spend the dough for a new one.

Schools/universities often have sales/auctions to get rid of their old crap. Everything from trucks to abandoned bikes to old computer stuff.

Craigslist is probably your quickest/easiest bet. You could check out freecycle too. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to find something acceptable for cheep or even free.

I might have an old monitor. If you're willing to pay for shipping, I'll send it to you. That is, if I can find it, and it still works.

I have a few CRT flat Trinitron monitors - the best monitor ever made, picture-wise - but I haven't had a chance to test these out. Anyway the cost to ship a used heavy CRT screen would be more than it's worth and probably more than the cost of buying a new one. If you lived close enough to pick up in person, I'd test one tonight for 'ya.

How large is (was) your old monitor? You can pick up a decent LCD 18-19" widescreen brand new for well under $100, and with free shipping.

I would say get a new monitor, Asus has a nice one out right now the VE228H it is also LED which is nicer than LCD. I have an LCD tv and have seen my parents LED tv and it is much nicer than my LCD. I am thinking about upgrading my 5 year old LCD Samsung and the Asus looks like a really nice deal.

And also any money you spend repairing the monitor doesn't make it any newer it just means that the part replaced is new and something else can go out and that another repair and money towards a nice new shiny monitor.
