I have the Chop House ( thin cut) and really like the ergonomics of the knife as well as the way it performs. I've been trying to find information on the Concave/Scalloped spine of knives like the tank buster, bunker buster, Chop house, and the MACV SOG bowie designed by Benjamin Baker. Is there any functional purpose to the design of the spine? Does it aid in any task or is it simply a way to reduce weight ?

The various shapes can be used to redistribute the weight and balance point of the blade.
I recall some knife and fighting style where the weak hand would use the scallop to index off of, for blocking and pushing. Maybe someone else can elaborate.

It can also work out well with a lanyard around the forearm/elbow and hand on the spine for choking up for light detail work like zipping open fish bellies, and making small holes for a bow drill setup.

The lanyard will carry the weight of the knife while you can manipulate the tip more easily. The curve in the spine will give you a natural index point and something to put some pressure into the tip with.

It will also work well for aiding usage as a draw knife.

Hooker hit it dead on.
definitely is a way to reduce weight and balance the blade especially with thicker size steel.
I'm sure some are just for looks as well.
