Concealed Carry Licenses and Knives

I thiink 35 states have reciprocal arrangements for Concealed Carry Licenses. That means that if I, a citizen of Indiana, have a CCW permit, I can also carry concealed in Florida, for instance. However, does the CCW permit also apply to knives that are over the limit in certain areas. I am lucky enough to live in one of a few states that allows citizens to carry any knife they want, and will grant a CCW to anyone without a felony or string of misdemeanors.

What I mean to say is, does the CCW carry over into ALL concealed weapons, knives in this case, or just handguns? It is logical to think that if you are allowed to carry a handgun, you would be allowed to carry a double-edge or a 7 incher, but the law is NOT logic-based (see GUN CONTROL).

Anyone know the answer?

While I am no expert, I am unaware of any sweeping reciprocal agreement. I would be very careful about that.

One thing that has held back substantial reciprocity is differences between weapons laws from state to state. Your driver's license can be reciprocal because the traffic laws are fairly uniform. There are little differences from state to state, yes, but we all drive on the right side of the road, go on green lights, stop on red lights, etc.

Some states, such as Oregon, issue "concealed handgun license" which only allow carry of handguns, those guns which are supported with the hands when fired. Some states issue "concealed firearms licenses" which apply to all guns. A few states issue "concealed weapons licenses" which are much more inclusive and extend to knives, impact weapons, etc.

Here in Oregon, unless it is otherwise posted, I can carry a handgun into a bar. Just a few miles north of here, in Washington, all bars are off limits.

In Oregon, there are very few limitations on where you can carry. Some states have long lists of places that are off limits.

In Oregon, your license allows you to carry any _hand_gun you want. Some states allow other types of guns. Other states actually have a narrow list of specific makes and models that are permitted.

In Oregon, once you have your license, you can carry any handgun you want. In some states, you have to register by serial number exactly which gun(s) you want to carry. If you buy a new one, you have to file an amendment to your license.

Until these sorts of fundamental differences get worked out, full reciprical agreements are unlikely.

Here in Oregon, it doesn't matter what sort of license you have. You may carry any non-automatic folding knife up to 4" concealed. You may carry any other folding or fixed knife unconcealed.

In Virginia you may NOT carry a concealed handgun with a permit from another state. Also the permits say handgun on them to ensure that is the only weapon covered by the permit. 18.2-308 covers concealed cerry in Virginia. Of course being a Deputy non of it applies to me!!!! So, I have a nice little assortment of things to carry, given to me by the courts.
