Concealed Firearm or Concealed Weapon License

I have FL concealed weapon license, a resident permit. I can conceal most anything in FL as it is a Weapons, not a Firearms license, like in VA. I am carrying more and more fixed blades, but those are usually considered weapons as opposed to smaller folders which can often be considered "ordinary" or "regular" pocket knives.

AFAIK, the knife law resources linked don't clarify if a states' concealed weapons/firearms license is a "Weapon" or a "Firearm" license and if that allows you to carry any other sort of weapon concealed or not. I travel a lot and it is hard to know if my FL CWL permits me to conceal fixed blades and other weapons or not in a given state...

Mostly I am interested in GA, NC & SC as I am going there next.

hr 218 allows sworn/retired peace officers to carry a firearm in all 50 states, but i dont know if your license would extend beyond your home state.

my guess would be not, and you would be subject to the laws of whichever state/county/city you were visiting. this would need to be clarified with the entity that issued you the license.

Georgia issues a firearms license not a weapons license like Florida. Georgia knife laws are vague and enforcement is basically left up to the LEO. Some cities and counties have additional restrictions. I would be very wary of carrying a concealed fixed blade knife in the metro Atlanta area. If you are a decent, respectable citizen and have a Florida concealed carry license you might be okay but if the cop wanted to make trouble for you he could.

Here are a couple links that might help.

thanks for the replies guys. It is pretty silly that these permits are for firearms only. Firearms take the most skill t be both proficient and safe with, safe in terms of other people besides the bad guy. There are lots of situations when you may need to defend yourself but you can't do it w/ a firearm w/o violating safety rule 2 &/or 4. So...what are the legislators trying to accomplish here by limiting us to firearms???

Trust me, I totally hear you Vulcanite. A point I would add to yours is that the firearm is deadly force. What happens when deadly force is not warranted? I am a firm believer in the force continuum. Every LEO knows and is trained to use levels of force to suit the situation, that's why they carry all the gear and learn hand-to-hand. While civies in SD situations are no trying to make an arrest (usually) they certainly can face situations where deadly force will send them to jail instead of the bad guy.

My theory is this rather foolish situation with the law is something of an accident. Ignorant legislators I think if given the opportunity would ban carry of all weapons under the mistaken belief that criminals will stop carrying (and "good guys" will no longer have weapons close by if they loose control of their emotions). But the 2nd Amendment often blocks such measures for firearms. While I would argue the 2nd Amendment was intended for all manner of arms, that's just how the law goes most of the time.

hey your FL concealed weapon license, lets you carry a gun too. now there are othere states that let you carry guns and knifes with your fl permit. you just got to find out which ones that they are. go down to the police station and they maybe able to help you out or at lease point you in the right direction.

Delaware reciporically recognizes Florida Concealed Weapons and Firearms Licenses for carrying concealed "deadly weapons" (which includes handguns and most other weapons, except switchblades).

(DE CCDW licenses also permit carrying both pistols and other weapons as well, in DE)

I've just join and would like to know were to look for the California Law about carrying a fix blade knife. I live in Crescent City Del Norte County. Could someone tell me where to look?
