im looking for a fixed blade for self-defense (need to wear it concealed)

any suggestions?

i'd like it to be "big enough" and if possible looking intimidating when pulled.. on the other hand it can't be that heavy or big or i might end up leaving home without it due the hassle... suggestions welcome.

regards,
chariot

Boker-Bud Nealy might be a possibility, or a custom Bud Nealy, if you want to shell the dough. Concealable, very flexible system.

Benchmade Nimravus Cub is my first choice.

Think also about Fällkniven F1 but at this case you should order custom sheath for concealed carry.

You might want to get a hold of Jerry Hossom. I photographed a small fixed blade of his that can only be termed as "mean". It's on my albums if you want a look. It is small enough to carry everyday but just the looks of it says it will cut.

In California, USA, under Section 12020 of the Penal Code, carrying a concealed fixed blade knife with a sharp point with the intention of using it as a weapon (even a defensive weapon) is a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on which courthouse the authorities want to file the case in. The appellate courts are split on whether or not concealed carry of pointed things without the intent to use them as weapons is also prohibited by the statute.

If your sharp pointed thing comes to the attention of law enforcement, and you have to go to court, your day has been ruined. If you use a knife in self-defense, and the bad guy bleeds, you have just come to the attention of law enforcement, who may or may not see the situation in hindsight the way you did when it was happening. Have you investigated and rejected all lawful alternatives to carrying a conceled fixed blade knife for self-defense?

If you carrying such in California be prepared to explain the concealed dirk/dagger thing to the men in blue. If you're willing to live with a "smaller" knife you might consider a large quality folder and be legal.

Chariot,

Look into the Running Dog Knives. They come with a real nice sheath system, and the price is very reasonable too. I carry his Wharncliff myself, and don't even notice the weight at all.

In MOST "urban" jurisdictions and a lot of fairly bucolic ones, a "dirk or dagger" carried concealed is politically incorrect. Official aversion to people walking around with stabbing weapons concealed on their persons goes back centuries before anybody ever heard of guns, let alone gun control.
