Concealed knife laws...Why?

I can't seem to find a generalized answer to this...What makes a concealed knife worse than a openly displayed one?

A BG isn't concerned with the effect a law has on him, so he will carry as he wishes. More than likely he'll be waving it around anyway. A concealed law seems, to me anyway, to penalize the law abiding of us. If we aren't intending to use it unlawfully, then our mode of carry should be unimportant. In fact, 'open carry' of a knife can appear downright villianous to sheeple. For a normal 'Good Guy'
this puts him, and his particular knife, in a suspicious light.
Don't get me wrong, sheeple shouldn't concern themselves with how you carry, but they do. Since my natural inclination would be to carry a neck knife (If only to occasionally lighten my pockets.), this kinda bugs me. It's illegal here in GA.

I can't think of a single scenario where there is a valid rationale for illegality...except maybe one more charge a LEO can level against you...maybe the ONLY charge at that.

Anyone here with a better grasp of the why's? I'm thinking of purchasing, and sometimes EDCing one.

Thanks for any insights-
Kyle

I think it's ironic that some states require that a particular knife be carried unconcealed, and still other states require that a particular knife be carried concealed.

i went to 6 flags about a week ago and before you can buy tickets you have to go through security check points with those giant metal detectors like a good boy i emptied all metelaic items in the tray and walked through, i had three knives a ti lite an endura and a wave, they let the razor sharp spydie and leatherman through but the totally fucked up ti lite i carry because i cant bear to part with they would not allow in because of its blade style seriosly people plus the original guy who was checking me out before calling over 20 other people to observe this 4in killing machine didnt even know how to open or close it, if your in security it might be a good idea to learn how to use knives, just a thought

as stupid (if not more so) as laws restricting you from carrying a gun. Keep and bear arms, arms are another term for weapons, knives are weapons, hence imo the second applies to them as much as it does to firearms. No one with good intentions will be stopped by the law being there people who are going to break the more serious law are going to likewise break the law against carrying. I have yet to see someone plan a crime see a law against the weapon they were going to carry during the crime and go "Dang it, now what am I gonna do!" Day that happens is the day I will believe laws against carrying weapons work.

I'm currently in a pickle wondering if the knife I plan to carry is legal because it has a four inch blade, think any criminal or person planning on using it to commit a crime would care? Heck no, but me (a citizen with no record worse then a minor traffic violation or two) has to spend effort trying to figure out if a four inch fixed blade knife is legal to carry around. Whats it going to do? Leap out of its sheath and start stabbing people all on its own? A knife is a tool as much as a hammer is a tool, I don't see laws agianst hammers.

Gosh things sure suck don't they?.... get used to life not seeming to make sense and not seeming fair.... it's a hard road when you are trying to drive against the traffic.

I also can't think of a single legit knife law...AZ is currently an exception as its legal to carry anything unconcealed. Here, just the clip showing is unconcealed. Legislators are just a bunch of idiots when it comes to knife laws...they consider knives weapons....knives are tools, just as much as a scredriver....CA also has to have some of the dumbest laws ever...

So are they going to ban the carry of hammers, awls, screwdrivers and flashlights?

OMG, you just blinded me with a flashlight, LOCK HIM UP!

Whats this world coming to?

Thank you.I've thought the same thing since I heard that law.I teach kids.I carry a knife.I doubt the parents would like the fact that I do,but waving it around isn't nice.I don't want them playing with knives till they get older so I keep mine consealed. Not because I don't want people to know I carry one,but because I don't want the kids thinking playing with them is cool..Well,It is fun to play with knives but they're too young to be doing that..

I believe that most of those laws are reactionary to either some sort of incident or portrayed incident (think Federal Switchblade Act, Gun Control Act of 1968), due to a percieved threat that may or may not exist (laws enacted to prevent freed negros to own arms in various part of the South et al post Civil War), or as a means to curb the cries of the sheeple by polioticians who desire to keep their seat.

We Canucks get screwed too. We can't have a folder that opens too quickly, but can carry a FB of any size. No knife specific law on concealed or not. How does that make sense? After a Dodo got stolen by customs (despite the fact that numerous canadian retail stores legally carried it), I started going towards fixed blades. FB's have much weaker laws here, so if I'm ever given a hard time by an LEO for having it, I'll tell him I'd love to have a small Spydie but our laws seem to prefer I carry a large FB.

Well if you people are really trying to hear the rationale behind it, I *think* the objective is to give police the leverage to apprehend and charge the shady characters they encounter who are obviously carrying knives for sinister purposes.

I dont really agree with this tactic, but I think in the eyes of LEOs it is better for them to outlaw all conceled weapons so they can arrest the badguys for that alone. Most cops will not be harassing business men in suits anyway.
