Hey guys, I'd like to start by saying I'm a huge fan of Condor Tool and Knife, and an even bigger fan of the company and services of 42Blades, who owns and operates Baryonyx Knife Co.
I had been in the market for a larger machete and emailed Benjamin asking his opinion on which would be best suited for my needs. I found him very responsive and helpful, and in the end decided on an 18" El Salvador. I needed a few extra touches on it, however, and Ben gladly agreed. I really think this is the most professionally personalized machete I've owned thus far, and was so happy with the product that I thought I'd share some pics. I will likely come back later and show this guy in use. Thanks for looking!
The sheath is excellent as always. They have pretty tight control on these and the leather is well made.
Here you can see the stitching and the invaluable belt loop swivel.
The sheath retention is excellent; in fact I've only ever had one loose sheath from Condor, and it was still on par with most other leather sheaths.
Here's a few pics of the lanyard hole, the width of the grip, and how it looks in hand. I have a medium to small hand, and it seems this grip accommodates all but the largest of hands.
As for the customization, I asked Ben to square the spine for firesteel striking, and to bring the edge all the way to the handle for controlled cuts. The thickness is a little more than a standard Tramontina or Imacasa, ensuring strength, but still easily narrow enough for very detailed work. The weight is seemingly only a little hefter, about the weight of a 20"-22" thinner machete.
Don't mind the fingers and feet, I'm on my day off and being lazy.
Hope someone finds this informative in their next purchase from Baryonyx and/or Condor.
