Well my new Condor bolo machete arrived yesterday and it is one awesome chopper. Thanks for those who recommended Condor.

I have a sheath question. I didn't order the stock sheath for it as I wanted to make sure I liked the machete first. Well I love it so now its time for a sheath. The leather sheath for it is this one.

Costs more than the machete itself. Looks good to me but before I order it I was wondering if any of you have this type of sheath and what your thoughts on it are or if you have other suggestions.

Thanks in advanced. :)

Cool Machete - good score! I bought the Condor Rodan, and if it's of any comfort, they sent a left handed sheath!

I called the vendor up and was told: "I don't know why they show the sheath as being right handed. They all have left handed sheaths....bla bla bla" He was extremely polite though, so I let it slide and let it slide.

I think some left-handed El Salvadoran is in charge of the sheath making department and nobody's told him that the loop should be on the other side, to match the sales images?? :D

PS: Maybe you can get one from them seperately http://www.condortk.com/contact.php

Thanks for the heads up on the lefty sheath thing. I'll have to email them and ask about that. The sheaths look sturdy enough.

If you got a right handed sheath - somebody's going to get an earful tomorrow!

There is some right handed sheaths. Although the last batch (maybe more, I cannot remember) had shipped with lefty sheaths.

Strange! Mine is a 1st-gen one, though, so that may be why. That sheath looks to be a different shape than mine. We have a couple of them scheduled to arrive at the shop tomorrow (along with some Bushlores--MINE! :D) so I'll check what kind of sheaths they have and report back.

Thanks. I forgot to post that maybe I got a sheath from another knife since the only way mine would come close to fitting the sheath was to shove it deeply inside, but it's not a pocket sheath.

If put in traditionally, there's a close to 2 inches of empty space below the tip and the way you see mine it still doesn't go to the bottom of the sheath.

What shop are you talking about FortyTwoBlades? Do you own or work at a shop that sells knives? I got mine at Smoky Mtn Knife Works. 1st place I could find them being sold online.

I work at a small brick-and-mortar shop in Bar Harbor that sells knives and all sorts of other things. I wish I owned my own store--maybe someday! :D

Well I just ordered the bolo sheath so I'll let you guys know if I get a righty or a lefty when it arrives. I guess if it's a lefty I can always cross draw it or wear it on my back like Conan :D .

Or just wear it on the left side and use the swivel on the sheath to draw it edge-up like a katana. :D

Well I just received a reply from the machete specialists regarding the sheaths in stock for the bolo machete. They confirmed that all their sheaths are currently left handers. :( I guess when mine arrives I'll have to figure something out.

For the record, both Rodans that came into the shop today had lefty sheaths. I'm gonna' write them an email...

I guess I'm going to return mine and order one when they get their sh*t together. I can't use it crossdraw - it's not built correctly for that and it's too big for tearing off the loop and making a pocket carry.

The only scenario I can envision is above by right rear pocket. Reaching back from that angle would withdraw it at the right position.

I don't think it's worth the headaches. YMMV.

Also it shouldn't fit THAT tight. They should have just stuck with the first sheath design--retention was so-so but at least it had the loop on the right side and you could take the knife out once you got it in! :(

Ya I have a feeling I'll be sending the lefty back if I can't make it work. :( Not sure if there is much I can do with this but we'll see.

Maybe wear it "scout style". :D

There was a hiccup in production, and in fact, there are some models that got shipped with left hand sheaths. The company will replace any sheath with new ones as they get them in. The sheaths are tight, as with all leather sheaths they have to account for the sheaths coming loose over time. They are normally tight right at the beginning, but with actual use will loosen and fit around the blade. The local machete sheaths are very tight at the beginning but form to the tool in time. The older sheath was a flawed design as they could not keep the sheaths consistent.

Joezilla,

Thanks for the info. How would I go about doing the exchange. My vendor (unmentioned) acts clueless about this. It's not worth returning or a dispute over the price point, but I would like to get a right handed sheath for my Condor Rodan.

Any detailed info would be most appreciated. Thanks. :)

Call up Condor. They'll jump right on it.:thumbup:
