Condor Bushlore Quality Control?

I recently purchased a Condor Bushlore from Amazon and immediately sent it out to have a custom sheath made for it without really testing it out. I read some reviews and watched some videos and thought it must be a solid knife. After sending it out though, I've looked at more videos and scrolled through the comments and every now and then I saw that folks were having issues with the edge rolling or chipping and a very disappointing video of someone batoning with it and the blade broke in half. I also noticed that these issues seem to be dated and I haven't found these issues in newer reviews or posts about the Bushlore. My question is, did Condor just have a brief quality control issue that has been resolved since then? Thanks.

The hardness is the primary reason for the edge rolling. I haven't had a chipping problem except when for example I am using one of their machetes and hit something like a brick. The original Bushlore used 1/4" steel and many found it a bit too robust (me included). Condor replaced it with a thinner blade stock used today. The Bushlore is a good value knife. One needs to keep things into perspective as it is about a $40 blade.

Condor's QA/QC is average. You get some duds now and then. I have a neck knife that I think they got a bit carried away with the heat treat. It is really difficult to sharpen. Condor will replace a bad piece.

I like their leather sheaths a lot which is one of the real value added items they provide.

Thank you, that answers my question. Hopefully mine received a proper heat treat as I really liked the look and feel of the knife overall. I got the micarta version and it felt like it was custom made for my hand. The sheath was very nice but I'm a kydex guy and knew I would have one made when I ordered the knife. You're right about the value, thanks for putting that in perspective.

I suspect you might want to thin the edge down a bit on the Bushlore to make it a better cutter. That is the case with the Kephart, but I really haven't messed with my newer Bushlore very much. The fact is, I can find the darn thing. Probably slipped behind my bookcase.

I have the less expensive version with the wood handle.

I may send it out to a pro to reprofile it into a true scandi grind. I'm not sure though, if I keep sending it out I'll never get to use it. I guess when it comes back I'll work with it some and decide if it needs it then.
