i went to general.. well because this isnt a sword although its dang close, so it doesnt belong there. its not an axe although it chops like one it doesnt belong to that forum- it belongs in my hand. its the condor discord.
i got this from http://www.baryonyxknife.com/ this guy did an excellent job too!
i got it as a factory second with a bad edge or something.. i told em i wanted it to have more of a tip so he reground the edge, taking some of the belly out and it turned out great! communication was great and responsive, he knew what i wanted right away and i had it in about 2 days.
this thing chops. i'm not trying to give some formal review of blade steel or scientific chopping ability. just personal experience. i used it a lot in the past two days around the farm. lots of pecan trimming (if you dont know, thats not a soft wood). we've got a small grove and some of them and some in my yard so lots of spiders come in if the limbs start touching the ground, and in turn hard to cut the grass- sooo.... here comes the fun job-- i got the discord and went to work. its very efficient. bites deep. holds an edge exceptionally well. duno if thats the steel, the treatment, or both.. or the edge job (good job baryonyx knife!) might be all combined- point is. this thing is a BEAST at the chopping jobs and after about 5 or 6 hours of hard use i barely touched it with the diamond steel and its back again. i hit the 4 wheeler trails clearing those overhanging limbs and saplings in the way. the chopping consisted of scrub oak, pine, and just about anything else in my way that grows in south georgia. if i let that stuff grow up the big yellow garden spiders take over. (try walking to the deer stand early in the morning and catch one of those in the face about as big as your palm! they might not hurt you but they sure will make you hurt yourself.)
theres one thing i didnt like. its the sheath. its too tight to the machete, the two snaps are annoying if you like to use your machete, i have a neighbor that is going to make me a leather sheath for it, but this is a personal thing AND its easily fixable. i guess you could also send it off to some of these custom kydex guys or make it yourself.
bottom line is- condor did a good job creating this thing, once again it swings like a heavier machete (not too heavy tho) and moves chunks of wood like an axe. baryonyx knife did an awsome job recreating the edge and blade to what i wanted. you out there who like big choppers and like to try new blades. go get one and spend the extra few dollars to get the fine convex edge job, its well worth it.
