Condor Golok Clicking

I literally just received my new Condor Golok after what seemed like a eternity of wait. I love the look and feel of the handle. The size is quite nice One things does worry me though while inspecting I can hear a clicking sound if shaken from side to side like something is cracked. I cannot visibly see any cracks but it is definitely making a noise. Even if I do not swing it but holding the Golok handle in hand and with my other hand holding the back of the blade and move side to side slightly I can hear this noise. It sounds like its coming from the handle area, could there be a crack under the handle? Should I use it or just return it :(what do you all think?

I would contact the dealer, and tell him the situation.
If he offers a return and replacement offer, I'd take it.

Hmmmmmm...makes me wonder if there's something in one of the skeletonized parts of the tang? There's nothing rattling in it if you hold it by the spine and shake it is there? My other thought is something with a pin. If it bothers you, contact Rick Jones at Condor (though it might take you a little while to get back to you right now since he's in El Salvador at the moment) and he'll take care of it for you. Otherwise, use the hell out of it and if anything goes wrong, do the same. It'll be covered. :)

I was thinking the same thing maybe a pin or something but nothing clicks or rattles if I shake the whole unit, one hand on handle and one hand on the blade. However I do hear it if I sit it down on the desk with the handle on the desk and move the blade side to side. I am thinking crack under the handle. This is a real bummer as I was so excited to receive it. This was real disappointing for me as I love the aesthetics and feel of it. Guess I will contact the vendor. Yay for the wait again :thumbdn:

Update just got off the phone with the vendor they told me they are shipping me a new one and a shipping label and to just return the other when the label comes. Now that is good customer service. I am disappointed that I am not going to get to play with it this weekend but I would rather be safe than sorry ( a broken piece of steel going into some body part is not worth me not waiting one more week). The vendor is standing behind the product they sell though and for me that is a plus. This situation a little inconvenient but not a total lost. At least I got to see what type of company I have been dealing with and I am pleased with their service.

My replacement blade came today. As I checked it out visually it seems solid. I did notice that the handle was a lot lighter in color than on the previous model. This one also seems to have the taper that everyone talks about. The other model was the same length all the way down 3/16ths. This one the handle scales are not quite flush with the tang but it is not a so much that it is a problem. It came sharp and it is quicker in the hand than one would imagine for a blade of this size. While the handle is not totally flush with the tang it is smaller in diameter and fits my hand better. Overall I am happy with my purchase I will give it a actual field test this weekend. Kudos to knifecenter for making a bad experience right. I will be shipping the defective blade back tomorrow once I am off of work. :) I'm a happy camper now. I will post pics this weekend.

I'm very dissapointed. The second golok came in good condition but less than 15 min worth of work making kindling and guess what clicking again. Not good for the second time around.

You bought a machete with an outstanding price/value ratio and you're calling a slightly loose handle a 'bad experience'? I would have wrapped soaked the handle of the first one in some linseed oil, used the hell out of, and bought another if it ever failed, satisfied that I got such a cool blade for such a low price.

I don't think the tang is cracked at all. It's probably the handle or pinning clicking against the tang which would indicate adhesive failure, that is, if the slabs are glued in before pinning. You might not care for the sound, but it wont effect performance unless the slabs loosen up. You could probably fix it by wicking a bit of superglue or other adhesive under the handle.

+1 to what karda said but use some slow set superglue which you can get at a hobby shop. if you want to find out if it is a loose handle, clamp the blade in a vise with some leather on both sides of the blade and see if you can feel the handle move. i woudl just use it and not worry about it.

My kukri did this when I first got it. It clicks because the blade separates from glue that holds it to the handle. If you use the machete for a while, it will stop eventually.

Fling your wrist around in the air, does your joint crack? We all get old some day.

My boomslang clicks too. The scales are tight and the performance isn't affected so it doesn't bother me

I think they forgot to take the hamster out of the handle before shipping it out.

Hows the cutting power because I've been thinking of getting that particular one.
