Hi folks,

I plan on getting a Condor Golok as an addition to my Condor Kukri Machete. It'll be mainly used as a garden and camp tool. I'm a bit worried though about the handle, because it looks like one could easily slip forward onto the blade. To remedy this a bit, I plan on modding the Golok as follows:

Do you think the choil would weaken the blade too much in this area making it prone to breaking? I'm not sure about it, and I'd appreciate some comments about it! Thanks!

It would definitely make it weaker, although I doubt it would weaken it substantially. It definitely will not prevent you from still slicing your hand open if it slips off the handle onto the blade. A choil is not a guard. My suggestion would be to contour the handle so that it will not slip. It is a very thick handle, lots of options for modding. Perhaps even wrap it in grip tape or inner tube. Also, you could throw a lanyard on there too to restrain your hand. Btw cutting a chunk out of the blade could easily ruin the heat treat.

I don't think you have much to really worry about with regard to the factory handle. The handle is very well designed and comfortable to use. The Pack Golok and Village Parang are also good choppers for around the house or camp. I use all of these for this purpose.

I have a golok and haven't come close to having my hand slip. Just file off the edge a couple of inches if your worried. Won't weaken it or give it a funky look.
