I love the Kephart design. I think its probably one of the most utilitarian and practical knife designs on the market, which is why it is so often copied (cough cough blackbird sk5 cough cough). When I found out that Condor made an inexpensive kephart design that didn't involve a one year waiting period, I was all for it! 1075 steel is by no means a powerhouse in the knife community, but it is a performer and for my needs it would work just fine. So I decided take the leap. I purchased it from http://baryonyxknife.com/, it was actually listed as a "Grade B" item, however upon getting it I couldn't really find anything wrong with it. They have high standards at Baryonyx Knives. So over the last few months I have been using it quite heavily and have enjoyed many aspects about it, but it wasn't quite perfect for me..

So I thought to myself, Hey! Lets make it perfect! So after several hours of grinding and reprofiling I landed on this. I still have a bit of work to do on it, mainly blending the new lines of the convex edge (so seriously don't mind the shoulders, they'll be gone soon). It went from a regular spear-point to a drop-point/spear-point hybrid and from 4.5" to 3.8" which in my opinion is a bit more balanced. I am still unsure of the drop/spear point thing going on, however with such an inexpensive knife it seems like a really good test platform! It also sits in its sheath deeper, which I tend to prefer as well. If the tests go well I am considering recreating this exact knife in O1 tool steel with either a full convex grind or a scandi-grind. Perhaps it would make a good all around knife, only time will tell.

Anyway, here are the photos of the 90% completed experiment (sorry for the cellphone pics):

Hope you enjoyed.

Cool. It is a very good basic knife that really will do anything that a knife should be expected to do. I have one that I have left completely stock. I have cool, higher quality steel knives, but it is becoming one my favorites.
