I'm getting a Condor Kephart as a gift for someone, and I have a question about the edge. Is that a scandi edge? Is it sharp or does it need to be reprofiled? Can the coating be easily removed?

The blade edge coming directly from the factory leaves a bit to be desired. I reprofiled both my Tavian and Nessmuk.
Yes, the coating can be easily removed with paint stripper.
Suggest you use Baryonyx Knives as your source, he will (for a small fee) touch up the edge nicely.

The edge on mine was not the sharpest. It is not a Scandi, more convex. I did re profile mine on the Ken Onion Sharpmaker which did a sweet job. The blade is not coated. It has a gun blue type finish. I sanded the wood scales due to the rough feel and finish. A treatment with boiled linseed oil and it looks and feels great. Overall, a nice user knife at a bargain price point.
