Condor Knives: They've got some nice traditional looking, cheap knives. What do people think of them? Any good? Here's a few samples:

They do look quite cheaply made but maybe they are great! Look at Mora's after all: cheap but sweet knives

Construction is a little crude and there aren't a bunch of fancy steel and handle choices. But holy heck they are built like tanks. I doubt there's anyone who would say they didn't get their money's worth from a $25 Bushcraft or Bushlore.

+1 to Bob W. Crudely built is a much more accurate description than cheaply. Use on and you can tell you are holding a good quality, solid knife. Just not fancy. Good for me!

They are great blades for the money. And, should you have an issue, their customer service is top notch and will go out of their way to satisfy their customers.

I am personally looking forward to at least 6 of the new designs that are coming out this year.

Yeah I don't mind something a little rough around the edges if it gets the job done and is a solid tool!! I think the bottom three photos I posted are the more crude ones but I really do think the first one is quite a looker! :) Might try one sometime!

The wooden handle on my Condor parang is quite attractive after a couple of oilings. My Hudson Bay has about a quarter inch blade curve to the left when held, was about 85% finished, feels good and chops well. The belt loop on my H.B. sheath was buggered but the sheath itself is an awesome thick unit. Both the Parang and the H.B. needed reprofiling and sharpening when I got them. I was told by a Condor distributor that I would get a replacement sheath, which I am patiently waiting for. Steel seems ok so far, moderately hard from my limited use\sharpening. I like them both and would buy Condor again.

That picture just sold me on it. I am getting one. Looks like the perfect small bushcrafty knife.

EDIT: Perfect CHEAP bushcrafty knife.

EDIT#2: After looking around its really not that cheap. For $20-30 more you could get an ESEE 4 OR for the same price I could get a short BK in april. I might go for the wood handled one still, now that might be hard to beat for $25

Went on a Condor buying binge. For me i really like the designs, imo real SE Asia influence. I like the rough construction. Then i won't mind bashing the heck out of them if needed. Good for "project" people too. Right now my favorite is the Boomslang, followed by the Barong.

The sheathes are really nice, i love them.

Yup--great stuff for the money. Condor is addicting stuff! Their QC isn't as tight as some other companies' but that's why I check 'em! Their customer service is second to none, and you'd be hard pressed to find products that give you greater performance per dollar.

I have a couple of condor blades and so far I have been unimpressed with their edges out of box, but I have been impressed with their durability and performance.

Almost all of them are coming with an edge that cleanly slices paper, while some can dry shave. You must have bad luck, I'm afraid. I've had a handful come through with pretty dull edges, but they represent a pretty small volume of the total sample. Thanks goodness that's an easy problem to solve, though, eh? :p

I'm going to have to agree with 42 here. I have handled quite a few of them, and maybe 2 have had a not so great of an edge. All the ones I have bought have been sharp out of the box. The 2 that were dull were at SMKW, and they were 2 of the many I held there. Either way, they are pretty easy to touch up.

Like I said, inspecting every one of the many pieces that pass through the shop means I end up handling a lot more examples of the exact same models than most! It's actually been interesting seeing the trends in production as they've improved their methods and QC over the past year. They've been getting pretty good at it at this point and the number of "Grade B" pieces I end up receiving has been steadily diminishing. They've really taken all of the knife community's comments to heart!:thumbup:

I have looked (maybe not enough?) for a Bushlore vs. Bushcraft review...anyone have both? Which do you like better for general field use? Both seem to be good "Mora like" knives (I love Moras for real use) but I feel the desire for a thicker blade. I have a Hudson bay, I like it but its just too large to carry around. It does however make me want more Condor knives.

Would love to see the Bushlore and Bushcraft knives side by side, and see a good report on how they compare to each other and to a Mora.

Ya there pretty nice,
but they don't come with a great edge
and the scandi is a little steep,
but if can reprofile it, it will make a great bushcrafter

I have one of those knives. One reason why I got it is because of the wood handles; it will age and gain it's characteristics the more you use it and care for it and in the end, might just age well!

I ordered the Bushlore with the wood handle from 42B. Apparently I went on a scandi kick... bushlore, mora, wohlwend micro and wohlwend bushcrafter. Should be a good week!
