Tough one... I have and like both. I do like the point on the Village Parang, so I suggest that one if the point is something important to you. I think it's more a question of style than anything. Choose either one and I think you'll be happy or get both.

I find that the Village Parang has a stronger forward balance that would contribute to wood chopping tasks, while the Pack Golok is a bit handier with more knife-like tasks.

They are actually my two most favorite short chopper machetes. You can't go wrong with either for chopping.

For occasional brush in the back yard, either of these work okay. I prefer the Condor El Salvador for thinner vegetation. Don't dismiss the Condor Kumunga as an option. It is more knife like.

either one will do what your wanting it to do... I have and enjoy both, my personal favorite is the Village Parang of the 2 you listed, though I do admit to preferring the Heavy Duty Kukri to either of those 2, though only very slightly...
