Condor Tool and Knife Varan

No problem dude! Just as a note, the confirmation you received was from me printing the label--I'll be hitting the post office first thing Monday morning though! Ought to be in your hands in record time. Nothing I hate more than having boxes lying around waiting to go out. :)

Don't forget to post pics!:thumbup:

Tried ordering one here in DELIVERENCE land and ran into some fancy side mouth salesmanship.
Going to wait and here the reviews on the VARAN now before I spend my coin.
Just recently picked up a Condor Nessmuk ... and if it is any indication of the 2011 quality control
... not going to buy anymore Condor. I hate to say but being honest.

For reference, I personally inspect all of mine. I had to send back an Enep machete that was missing a rivet, an Enep knife, 2 goloks, and a Boomslang with burnt tips, and a Woodworker Axe and Scout Hatchet with thick edges. All of the others checked out fine, including the Nessmuks I received, and I'll be receiving replacements for the ones that failed inspection. I realize that Condor's QC may not be amazing, but what you get for the money (so long as you don't get a lemon) is amazing. As is their customer service. If you ever have any sort of problem with a Condor product just contact Rick Jones at Condor and he'll take care of it for you.

Everyone loves a great warranty...but no one likes to have to use it the second they pull their knife out of the box. That's why I bother to check each one. ;)

least you check your inventory ... SHAME you have to do it.
But then I remember Lots of bad rifles being shipped and recalls ... and all kinds of stuff.
CONDOR needs to step up their own Q/C DEPT.
The VARAN was something I wanted but think a BECKER may take it's place.

I wouldn't write them off based on that alone. Everything else about their product line is pretty excellent, which is why I've been a big fan for years. The big thing is that the standard of quality for Central/South America is generally a good deal lower than the quality we expect in America. Condor is a subsidiary of Imacasa, a major Central American agricultural tool/machete maker, and so their workers are used to producing huge volumes specifically for Central/South American consumption. The management at Condor knows what we demand in a product and has been struggling to get their workers to realize that too. It's just sort of a push/pull relationship right now because of a difference in cultural expectations.

For what it's worth, my Rodan (smaller version of the Varan) is one of my most-used woods knives. That being said, Beckers are quite nice too, and you can't go wrong there!:thumbup: Once I expand into other product lines I plan on inspecting each and every one of those, too. I've worked in knife shops a long time now and have seen lemons come through from nearly every manufacturer out there, including plenty of top-shelf American brands. They're a fact of the business, but I'm doing my best to make sure I'm the one dealing with it, not the customer. :o
