Relatively new member here.

I'm looking at purchasing a machete and ran across Condor Tool & Knife.

I can't find much on the web about them, I can't find any online video reviews of their products, and I don't have the search function for these boards.

My inquiry is: What are people's perception of their products? Anyone use their stuff? Is it good or bad? What to watch out for? Should I stay away?

It seems like the brands that keep popping up are Tramontina, Cold Steel, and Martindale. What about Condor?

Condors are the nicest machetes currently on the market. Condor is the premium line of machetes made for the North American market by Imacasa- a machete and agricultural implement manufacturer in El Salvador. Condors are excellent- I own several and plan on picking up several more. Condors come with excellent, polished & convexed edges, unlike most (all) other machetes, which require the end user to put the edge on him or herself. Most Condors also come with high-quality leather sheaths- most other machetes come either without sheaths, or with a flimsy canvas affair. Condors also have comfortable, well finished handles, and the back edges of their blades are smoothed off. Overall, they are made to a much higher level of finish than any other machetes currently being made.

All of the Condors I've seen are nice, they're all tough. Which particular model you'll like best depends on what you're looking for. The "El Salvador" is an excellent all-rounder.
Give Condor a shot! You'll be glad you did.

If you can find 'em buy it. Too cheap to pass-up v. their quality.

If you want to see discussion about them, visit the Wilderness and Survival subforum here. Plenty of discussin' and reviews. One of our Mods here also is instrumental in their designs.

Condor makes a fine machete and knife. I just got the Khukri and Bolo model machetes and a Bushlore and two Rodan knives. The quality of the steel in their blades is superb, but don't expect to find a 100% perfect finished product. For the price they cannot be beat, but they do not look like a 300 dollar Bark River machete out of the box. That doesn't bother me one bit, seeing as how I use and abuse all my blades anyway :D I'd trust my life to any of the Condor products I own.

As a member of the machete-head club :p I can chime in that I love mine to death and agree with everything these co-conspirators said. :D Fantastic tools for the money--it's hard to find a brand that has a better price/performance ratio. I own 3 machetes and a knife by them, and they just can't be beat.:thumbup::thumbup:

Wow!

Thanks for all of the replies and info. They seem to have a sterling reputation for their price point.

I will certainly look into them now.

Thanks again!

Once in a very great while you'll get a dud, (as you can understand might happen to any tool around that price point) but they have a phenomenal lifetime warranty that they really stand behind. If you ever have any trouble with your Condor tool they'll take care of you with lightning speed. :)

Condor makes some nice machetes and knives. They makes axes too, but I've yet to hold one so I can't comment on them. I would assume the quality is right up there with their machetes and such. Condors are considered by many to be the best production machete you can buy today, and that's saying a lot. Their customer service is excellent as well.

What model were you interested in?

Yes please! I haven't seen any actual photographs of it--mind posting some up? It's the only kukri-styled machete I might actually be interested in.

Are most of the machetes 420 stainless steel? I have seen them up for sale at SMKW. I have been interested in one of the knives (Bushlore?) and I think they are made from 1080 or such. I will have to check out the wilderness community here about the knife and how the machetes work. Very interested now.

Condor makes machetes out of both stainless and carbon steels. They even make a few of their models out of both, so you can choose the steel type you prefer. Conventional wisdom says that carbon steel should be better for machetes, but I've found the stainless to be exceptionally tough. I've accidentally hit concrete multiple times, and even mild-steel bar with stainless Condors, with the only damage being slight edge rolling, which was easily repaired. Condor's stainless is good stuff. They've obviously done their homework on the heat treat. Actually, I believe all of my Condors are stainless, but I have plenty of Imacasas, which are made out of lesser grade carbon steel than their Condor models, and they're beastly tough as well.:thumbup:
