Condor Village Parang defects - acceptable for a machete?

I bought a Condor Village Parang Machete, mostly for batoning.

I've noticed that the blade has two defects.

(1) The curve of the blade's edge is not perfect, there is a small indent where the curve flattens. It's pretty subtle, but it's there.

(2) The blade is not straight. It curves to one side by about 2mm (12" long blade).

Should I return it?

I can't get past how you need a parang /machete to baton with...

It's more like a big knife than a traditional western machete, but that's beside the point. My question is about the suspect quality of the blade. Is a 2mm bend in a 12" blade machete acceptable?

If you're not happy, contact Condor. I probably would test it first and see if I had an issue with it though.

Can you take photos? If there's a significant blade warp then I'd get it replaced, but if it's only very very tiny I'd probably just live with it. In terms of the other bit I can't give an opinion without seeing it.

I just took some pics, but it looks like I don't have permission to upload them

Do I have to have a few more posts before that restriction is lifted? If so, anyone know the magic number?

10000 posts, then you can post photos.

Just joking. You just have to get a free service like photo bucket to post the photos. Free and easy as pie!

Hope this illustrates the issue. The "bend" is only on one side, so I guess it's more of an asymmetrical shape than an actual bend.

It's a machete. What level of perfection to you expect? It's not a precision tool. It's made for hacking crap up. I can see nothing in what you posted that would in any way inhibit hacking.

What he said. Sharpen it the way you prefer and beat it like a rented mule.

I'm not sure what level of precision to expect in a $60 machete, that's why I'm asking you guys. Although, it has more in common with a big knife than with a typical 2mm thick (stamped?) machete.

You bought that to (ahem) baton with, so what level of precision do you need?

If you can still whack it, it'll work just fine.

I don't know $60 is alot of money for that crappy fit and finish.

How can you tell anything about the fit and finish with the pictures provided? I sure can't.
Chances are that the warp and indent is in acceptable tolerances for condor.

Great saying. :D

OP: Such minor defects wouldn't bother me at all on a tool like this, but it obviously bugs you, so I'd recommend returning it. If you're not satisfied, then you're not satisfied. Nothing wrong with that. You are the one who has to decide what's acceptable to you.

Baton that puppy into a log, then torque it till it's straight. Then pull it out and sharpen out the flat spot.

machetes tend to be a little on soft side .. try bending it straight i guess ... Ive done it before with mine.

Good luck bending that. It's a lot thicker than 2mm so I'm not sure where that spec is coming from. Personally I'd just use it, BUT if it bothers you at all it's worth getting it replaced just to get rid of the nagging little voice in your head that will keep you from really enjoying the tool. The blems your photos clearly (to me at least!) may be insignificant in terms of performance, but they aren't normal for that model.
