I went to a military relic show the other day and saw a couple CSA Bowies.....starting at $2500 each.

I had an old Nicholson Mill Bastard file from the SOFA Quad State roundup...it was broken and cost 50 cents. I also bought some 3/4" square wrought iron rods from and old fence to use as fittings.

I combined all this junk plus a piece of old antler that has a surface crack down the side and came up with this.

The blade is a whopping 11 and 3/4". Both the guards and blade are etched in ferric.

I have an 1863 Indian Head penny on the way which I am going to seat into the end of the butt.

Sweet looking bowie.... BUT now we know how much it cost ya, instead of $2500.... I tell ya what, I'll take it for $25. ;)
Seriously, fine work. What did you age the antler with?

Mongo....if you would have offered $29.95 I might have taken it but you insulted me at $25 :D

The antler was near white when I started and I heated it with a torch and rubbed in KIWI dark brown shoe paste then followed up with MinWax and buffed.

I like the fact that it looks different from from other bowies that you see. A little bit of originality goes a long way.

cool! i dont think most folks realize how large alot of the original CSA bowie's were.

:D Matt would know this because some of his relatives are still spending Confederate money :D

....and theres a problem with Confederate money??? all kidding aside, when i was taking inventory of my late Dads "stuff" there was a bunch of Confederate paper money, all near mint, kinda neat.

Another very wicked looking bowie ! The 50cent file origin makes it even more cool. Thats what combining a piece of breoken file steel and a great knifemaker gets you... Jason.
