I took a Spyderco triangle sharpmaker on trade and was at first disappointed with the choice of only the brown/white rods. While I concede these are entirely sufficient for all but the most anal retentive(a large percentage of those represented here, lol), I just couldn't bring myself to spring for the $$$ of the diamond rod set. Then it occurred to me that I had a ton of mixed and matched diamond, ceramic, aluminum oxide and every other media sharpeners I'd accumulated over many years. Lansky, DMT, crocK sticks, yadayada. The beauty is that most were flat, of uniform diameter and would nestle nicely against the Spyderco rods in the base. I'd even secure them with rubber bands at each end, voila. Go ahead, out-cheap that, make my day!
