i recently found out about confiscated knife sales on ebay and decided "what the heck" ill bid on one of those three random knifes deals.

what i got i am quite happy with :D

i managed to get a kabar mule straight edge for only 3 bucks lol

its in great condition with a couple cosmetic scratches but thats ok since its an everyday carry.

i also got two other cheap chinese ones, but im quite happy with my new kabar ^_^

I wonder who got my old Spyderco Delica that the TSA umm... "confiscated"... ahem... out of my checked baggage a couple years ago.

That still burns my butt. Friggin' thieves.

I love the idea of the TSA confiscated knives being sold. I just can't manage to feel very sorry for someone in this day and age of saturating electronic media, that "forgets to leave his knife at home while flying. Even when you get to the airport, you can still mail it home to yourself, or put it in checked bagage and request the bag be checked and secured while you are there. We've done it that way and had zero problems. I don't like to be burdened with carry on, so I check it.

But what I really love is being able to go to a gun show, and seeing this nice lady with cigar boxes of TSA knives. The last time I managed to pick up several Victorinox classics for 2.50 apiece, a Buck companion for 5 dollars, an older Schrade Old Timer 2 blade jack for 4.00. All were in good condition, with a couple of the Victorinoxs still having the factory edge. They became my "pay it forward" knives that I give out when I see someone struggling to cut open a box with a key. Because of others dumb behavior, I can convet knifeless sheeple, one bleet at a time. So far even the sheeple seem to appreatitate a nice sharp little classic. The women seem to really go ape over the sissors and nail file. For some reason the Vic classic seems to be the most confiscated TSA knife.

Vic classics are probably confiscated because people get them as a gift, or stick it on a keychain, and forget about it. If you're carrying a $500 custom, you know where it is and don't forget to check your pockets!

I've had a multitool - SOG paratool - that I forgot about get through screening. Got to the hotel, opened up the shaving kit and went HOLY CRUD  Bag got put into checked baggage on the return flight. :D

Yh i just found out about confiscated knife sales too, and I'll reserve judgement until my ebay purchases arrive.

2 years ago, travelling from Moscow airport, where security seemed to be of an overall high standard, one of my absent-minded friends got through with a medium sized sak because after setting off the beeper, they checked his handluggage bag and found the other sak he was packing - and then didn't sweep him again.

Ever since the regulation changes, I have never gotten anything confiscated by airport security, but the one time I did put a knife in my check baggage, it was taken and I got a nice note from TSA saying they searched my bag.

So if I ever do that again, it will be with an inexpensive knife, and it will be hidden as well as I can hide it, and buried as deep as I can bury it inside my check bag. So they have to open up 10 different containers to get to it if they decide to steal it. Maybe they will think it's too much of a pain in the butt.

Prior to 9/11 I got on many, many flights with a pocketknife in my pocket, and no one was ever the worse for it.

What?? They went through your checked luggage & confiscated it!!??

Was it illegal where you were travelling? Because if not, as far as I know they may not confiscate it?

If it was in checked bagadge, why was it taken? Did you go imediatly to the authorities at the other end when you didcovered it gone?

I would think that is illeagal confiscation. If you comply with regulations, there should be no reason to remove a pocket knife from a checked bag. Everyone should make it a practice to open and check your bag immediatly on arrival at the airport. If anything is missing, file a complaint right there. Our son had a dive watch disapear from his bag on a trip to Key West, and he cought it before he left the airport. Security at the Key West airport was being so-so untill he called the police. Then they tried to persuede him not to file a police report, but he was REALLY PO'd, and the airline ended up paying for his watch.

If you are in line with the TSA regs, never ever put up with something leagal being removed from your bag. If my sak or pocket knife is gone when I get to where I'm going, and it was in a checked bag, I'm going to raise hell when I pick up and check my bag at the other end.

I think this knife confiscation is meaningless.
Last week some 18 old guy were allowed to bring a knife on a plane since according to the security people "he was not going to use it for terrorism". Its like at DELL "are you going to do terrorism with this computer yes/no"
So if you are flying in Norway its ok to bring a knife as long as you promise not to use it for terrorism :)

Back in the old days I brought a Fallkniven F1 from Sarajevo to Gothenburg in my carry on. They discovered it at Munich airport, but since I was military I got to keep it as long as I "didnt take it out in the plane". Nice customs people.

You can lose things to TSA by accident. I checked everything on my way down. However, for the 4 days I was working, I put my leatherman in my briefcase and forget about it. When leaving, I put my pocket knife in the suitcase but forgot the leatherman. Got pinched in Orlando. If I got out of line to mail it, I'd have missed my plane because the line was 1 hour long. So old age and human nature can sometimes ruin the best of intentions.

A buddy of mine was convinced he'd found the road to riches by buying and reselling TSA confiscated knives. When he received the second bag of filthy, smelly, no-name, junk Chinese knives, he decided that wasn't such a good idea after all. He got a couple of Gerber/CRKT/Cold Steel type things, but they were pretty chewed up, too. Most of what he got would have been passed over if seen on a table of used knives.

Oh, sure, there are a few good ones lost to TSA, and those are usually sold individually on eBay, where you have to be on the lookout and quick on the clicker to get them, as the people selling them know what they've got. But the vast majority, and (in my experience) all of the bagged, "multiple knives for one low price" type of deals are not. Deals, that is. Unless you want a bag of junk to practice sharpening, repairing, rehandling skills, etc.

I didn't discover it was missing till I got to the hotel. There was a notice that they had inspected my bag, but it didn't say they had confiscated anything.

I didn't figure it would do any good to complain - I feel like a suspected terrorist when I get to the airport anyway. They are worried about my shoes, for goodness sakes. So I figure they would see it like...

Suspected Terrorist: you stole my knife!
TSA: No we didn't, and besides, you are a suspected terrorist in the first place!

The only place my bags got handled on that trip was at LAX, so I'd guess that was the place..

Where do you find out about these confiscation sales? Sound like a potential knife Eldorado.....

See my note above... There's a lot of junk confiscated, and a lot of people out there already trying to play this game.
