Confused about Kindle 3G service

Yes, folks, another Kindle question- sorry (ducking now!).

I am confused about the newest 3G version of the Kindle. The Amazon website says that the 3G service is included in the purchase price, but then I read a paragraph somewhere else on the Amazon site to the effect that they would charge you for internet browsing over the 3G. But, now I can't find that page again, and everything else I have read seems to indicate it is completely free. With all the information posted in the last couple years, I am having trouble sorting out what is the most current and correct. I would not use the Kindle for all my internet uses, but it seems like a great way to look up directions, restaurants, etc. when I am out of town (I don't have a smart phone).

Can anyone clarify for me- with the latest 3G version of Kindle, can I browse the web without incurring a fee?

As an aside, what is the best free way to get PDF documents onto the Kindle?

Thanks, y'all, happy New Year!

3G is free. I've used mine and haven't gotten a bill for it. :)

I haven't downloaded any PDFs so I can't help with that.

I do not even have an Amazon accpunt so they would be hard pressed to bill me for the service. And it still works perfectly fine. If you use their service through Amazon to move and transfer books that can cause money. But it is a service you have to pay for. Not a normal function.

I've not been billed for 3G services on mine. I don't use it for much browsing...it is sorta awkward to navigate around but it is "do-able" in a pinch.

I only transfer PDFs via the USB cable connected to my computer or when I'm on a known WIFI. Then it is free. If you email the PDF to your Kindle using 3G it is my understanding you'll be charged a transfer fee. Don't know what that is cuz I can easily work around it.

Thanks a lot, folks, that was exactly the information I was looking for! I certainly do appreciate your help!

Quirt, does the PDF transfer straight onto the Kindle via USB cable, or does it have to be modified somehow?

Thanks again!

When I first got my Kindle I downloaded a ton of books in PDF but I honestly hate that format. I started getting everything and converted it into Mobi format for ease of use. Cailbre works great!
