Confused about my Regulator?

A few months ago I tried selling/trading my Regulator just to get my hands on some INFI. I ended up buying a DC BJ as many of you know. Should be here tomorrow according to USPS. If I don't get it I swear I'm gonna pop a blood vessel!! But I digress...

My Regulator is new/never used and comes with the sheath it came with from SY.

A guy offered me $100 and said he was a collector and that's what they go for. On ebay, just the knife itself...someone bid $239 + $15 shipping...

Now is the bidder a fool or did the guy that made me the offer try to rip me off??

EDIT: I've since held on to it and am NOT looking to sell...just pure curiosity here.

Thanks

I don't think you are allowed to ask the value on something unless you are a paid member.

Now after saying that, something is only worth what somebody is willing to pay.

I have not payed attention to Regulators, but would guess the value to be closer to 240 than 100.

Researching knife values is a real PITA now, since almost everyone deletes the price after the sale. That was not true just two years ago, it's as though a memo went out instructing folks.

I encourage people to leave the price up. Please.

Oh I could care less about the actual price so no breaking of rules here...I just want to know if A) The bidder is a fool or B) The guy tried to rip me off??

Debating prices AFTER a sale...what's the point?

I've noticed that to...they edit it out and put SOLD where the price was.

Sometimes folks get a bit confused with Bussekin knives since they are all made on limited production runs. They see the "new" price and think that is the value. But as anyone with a 1st grade economics class education could tell us... when supply is limited, demand will increase along with price over time.

I put up a deregulator a while back, but removed it since I sold a different knife... Still, I had a couple guys PM me about buying it after I locked the thread. Do a search... can't be too hard to find. ;)

I would say between 140 and 180 depending on how motivated the buyer is my Godson wants one just now so I have been following them a little. That one with the $2389 price is a little "unusual" with the "serial number" engraved on there, never seen any like that before, not 100% sure that was done at the factory or what it actually is ("4585B").

Also, I would not read too much into Ebay sales. Fools and their money are soon parted on there with a Dogfather LE going for $717.99 and a Scrapizashi going for $535 + $25 for shipping.

Those prices are insane and the Regulator going for $239 + $15 also is going for a premium although maybe the numbers being on it it drives the price up. It really all depends on how long you want to wait if you're looking for a good deal.

+1!! It would be great if everyone: A. Left prices on the exchange; B. Locked their for sale thread once the sale is over.

I sold a Regulator for close to $180, which is a fair price for that fine piece of steel IMHO.

Asking the value of a knife or any item is fine regardless of member status. Attempting to sell is a different story.

Those knives were sold at a discount to the test team members who had already purchased the test team knife. That knife is the second version of the Regulator with the changes applied from information gathered from the test team. The number was so Scrapyard could track the knives to be sure they weren't sold less than 6 months or a year after they were purchased. IIRC the B at the end means that was the second knife purchased.

**EDIT**

I just checked mine and the serial number was linked to the seller and the letter after the number reflected the number of knives you bought. e.g.. 1 knife = 4585A, 2 knives would be 4585A on the first and 4585B on the second.

Evil bay prices are usually higher. The aftermarket on Busses and kin is almost double or more after the run is over. $100 is a he'll of a deal for a Reg+sheath!

As typical with questions of price extremes, I think both OPs theories were correct. Ebay is high, seller is way below value.
