Hi, I've been a member of bladeforums for about 9 years and joined to be an active participant in the Wilderness Survival forum. I've had several on topic threads moved to other areas by a moderator apparently due to not being in the correct forum ... strangely. I have seen threads clearly not belonging and they get to stay? Is a moderator out for me perhaps due to some of my helpful safety observations?
Is all this because I am not a paying member?
I stopped starting threads due to them continually being moved ... after waiting a couple of years I finally plucked up the courage to start another thread among fellow forum mates ... again my thread gets moved??
I am thoroughly disappointed with my treatment and upset about not being able to start conversations in my favourite subject ... wilderness and survival.
I dont swear, flame, I'm respectful and have shared much in this area ... why do I get chopped down?
Dave

Im guessing because the threads were not wilderness related. One cant post threads on any subject, just because its the only forum they like. It has nothing to do with your status, paying or not.

Yea ... you would think that although I keep my discussions on topic (why i started this thread ... here), wilderness and survival. My whole approach to using blades other than the kitchen, is wilderness and survival.

Dartanyon,
Have you read the STICKY concerning this issue. I'm assuming your bow-drill thread was moved because it fit better in the other category. Moderators do not engage in petty vendettas against anyone regardless of membership status or things posted. They do however sanction those not following the rules and move postings at their discretion following proper protocol.

Yep, read it. As far as I'm aware, using a fire bow to start fire is a skill. Using matches, flame thrower or a lighter would be more like "equipment" ... dont ya think?

I had another look at the threads in W&S ... more than half are equipment, arn't they?

Quite possibly......
It could also be considered equipment.
Moderation of that forum is at the forum moderators and supermods discretion. Perhaps they felt it was a better fit where it was moved.
I'm sorry i don't have a better answer for you, that is not my area, I'm only trying to help you understand.

Yea, no I appreciate your input though ... its just fairness gets taken into consideration especially when you try to play by the rules. Having your thread moved into an apparent graveyard is disappointing. I haven't been able to keep an on topic thread in W&SS for a few years now.
Its sort of like walking up to a group of friends, trying to contribute to a common interest where you are passionate about it ... have someone come up behind you, throw a bag over your head and move you to another room.

What's to get upset about? Whether a thread on making and using a firebow goes in Wilderness & Survival Skills or in Outdoor Gear, Survival Equipment & More? What difference does it make? Surely everyone who is interested in making and using firebows will be reading both forums, won't we? I know I will.

I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense to try to separate "skills" from "gear" -- seems like most threads discuss both gear and the skills involved in using it in the same thread -- but as long as we all read both forums, what difference does it make which forum a thread is in?

Upset - when you're passionate about something the reactions seem to hit closer to the heart.
Its sort of like the analogy I used earlier ... the room your in.
Sometimes there ends up being too many rooms.

+10 on that. Forums should be combined. How to use gear to maximum effect is a "skill."

I am not really concerned with the new set up, however a bowdrill thread, specially one about selection of wood type has nothing to do with outdoor gear and survival equipment. It has everything to do with a wilderness skills.

I wouldn't have a problem with combining those two forums, because like Thomas Linton just stated, skills compliment gear.

I look forward to future posts by you. With the forum split, there's going to some minor annoyances for a brief time. Also gear threads that have been dormant for a while and get bumped to the top by a post will be moved. That could go on a long time. Hang in there and keep participating!

It would be nice to have both W&SS skills & gear stuff in one forum but it seems W&SS became a dumping ground for general knive discussions, tactical flashlights questions, ammo choices and other things not specifically related to the true nature of the forum. Some people don't read forum specific rules before posting.

My post was moved back to the W&SS forum ... thankyou moderators.

LMT66,
Cheers, I enjoy sharing a common interest and nothing interests me more that thoughts on spending time in the great outdoors, away from society with the thought that I can survive without what is provided in shops.
I agree that we cannot turn our backs on learning and trade which brings us medicine and tools but with the essentials (a good blade) I like to participate and dream of adventure. Learning and sharing what we learn is just part of the process.
I hope to one day participate in a bushcraft skills program to share in our learning.

I do understand the need to move threads that dont belong in the forum they were started in and I also agree that there needs to be a category that best fits a discussion although making thinks too complex does exactly that. Keep it simple stupid.
What I dont like seeing is threads started to advertise a piece of equipment ... ie. for financial gain.
