What does the nuclear meltdown mean in front of the SFNO? Is this a tougher knife or one that has been treated higher so its stronger? I am confused on this. Anyone? Thanks.

The knife features rounded edges, like a rounded spine, rounded choil, and rounded pommel edges, as well as rounded talon holes. It makes it look very nice in my opinion but some prefer the flat edges for both practical and aesthetic purposes.

Ultimately, the NMSFNO is different from an SFNO because it has rounded edges, a one inch longer blade, mandatory magnum scales, and a full convex grind.

thanks guys. I was wondering why they did a NM version of the knife. Does the rounded spine help anyways?

It was probably done for variation - more blade length and a different look compared to the older SFNOs.

The rounded spine does help, though. Some guys appear to hate it (I can't fathom why, except for perhaps aesthetic reasons, ie. not liking how rounded spines look), but I find that it makes using the knife in some grips far more comfortable than before. Choking up on the choil is much more comfortable with the NM models, since the spine of the knife and edges of the choil are round instead of kind of sharp and square. On the other hand, you can't scrape stuff with rounded spines. But then, I myself generally don't scrape stuff with the spine of the knife, just the edge. If you do, then the NM treatment will probably not please you.

so its prettymuch nothing more than a cosmetic deal, huh.

thanks for the help fellas. i appreciate it.

Not entirely. As stated earlier, it is an inch longer than the standard SFNO, and it also has a convexed edge with more meat at the spine than the full-flat ground versions.

It's a totally different knife. That one inch takes it out of the realm of everyday carry knife for me, and makes it more of a chopper/camp knife. The convex edge is pretty sweet. Looks alot different too because of the added length. I'm a big SFNO fan, and I don't like the NMSFNO.

I'm not sure about the NMSFNO, but with the NMFBM, the blade was both longer and slightly thinner in addition to having rounded corners, so that the knife as a whole feels no heavier than a CG FBM and lighter than a FFFBM. Rounding the edges helps reduce weight and, from a structural standpoint, should relieve stress points. However, if you plan to baton, it'll probably wear out your stick faster because you're impacting a bit smaller surface on the spine. I agree with Balislinger that, while similar in appearance, the NM-series is quite different in character -- not necessarily better nor worse in my opinion (but then again, the SFNO isn't one of my favorites), simply different.
