Seller claims the biltong is made by HI, unfortunately i dont have any pix yet. But friend said there is no kami marks, which i find strange, since all other kuks they make do.

Is the seller lying? do HI biltong's come without kami markings, and if so, how do they know who built it if warranty issues arrive?

Biltons often come or came un-marked. Many times, at least in the past, Biltons were sometimes made by very skilled assistants who were working toward becoming a kami. Thus, no mark.

I doubt the seller is lying. He may be mistaken, but none of my biltons have been marked. That said, you could mix a bunch of non-HI blades in among them and I could pick them out pretty easily.

Pics would be best, or if your friend wants a sure thing with an HI warranty, I'd check with Yangdu and buyd from her.

I would sooner think the seller is misinformed.

The Normal Biltong and Kagas Katne are not usually made by HI, they are sourced from Dharan.
The exception being a few specialty horn handled ones and ones like the Baby Dui Chirra.
If bought from Auntie, HI will warrant them.

Ah? I thought Dharan was a not so frequent Kami. when I saw "Kagas Katne from Dharan" on DOTD's I thought that was the name of a Kami. Well that clears that up! Thx Karda. I still like them. They are very nice blades:thumbup:

oh,...on the website it says the biltong is made by HI....

This is the smallest full fledged khukuri we make. Does numberous small tasks quite well. About 9 inches and around 3 to 4 ounces.

so it is not made by HI?

I thought it was outsourced by HI to non HI Kamis but its just what I heard in the forum.
For sure it's up to HI specs, confirmed by quality control from HI and backed by HI's warranty. So in the "worst" case its as much of an HI product as an Iphone is from Apple.
I like the Biltong but make sure it's handle will be long enough for your hand.

The Bilton I had for a short time, (the bolster wasn't right and Auntie let me upgrade to a Bashpati). was made by a HI Kami.

So I'm sure the make some. Others are as Jens said ran thru the HI program so totally up to snuff.

I gotta get another one of those too. My list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter, hard as I try.

The ones marked by our kamis are made by HI.
The umarked ones are made in Dharan.
Either way they are warranted the same.

Back in the day HI made them more, but still sourced some from dharan.
Lately, it has been necessary to source these items to allow the shops to focus on keeping the Shop in stock and special orders.
