Please forgive me, I'm usually up on my news but I'm a bit confused.I apologize in advance if I've been asleep and ignorant of what's been currently going on here.
I'm noticing for a while some dealers and manufacturers are refusing to sell or ship to NY residents.
This would make it difficult to get my knife fixed under warranty with some companies. What happened? why are people so afraid of NY,what could NY possibly do to an out of State business selling a legal knife and shipping it NY?
Can someone slap me and wake me up here to what is going on? What the hell did I miss? Thanks

To make a long story short,a couple years back,to raise revenue, the DA of NYC declared any knife you could open with one hand(Every knife with a thumbsud, including those razor knives you use to cut boxes),as actually being a gravity knife and thus, illegal in NYC and the buroughs. They actually went into Home Depot and confiscated their razor knives , and made a lot of businesses pay fines, threatening dealers that would dare to send folders to NYC
Now there are many dealers and even some private folks, afraid to send knives to NYC or even more paranoid,to New York state.I like in Syracuse,NY.I can walk into any sporting goods place and buy an assisted opening knife, but no real quality knives to be found in this fairly small city.Frustrating!

Thank you all for the responses. These businesses are not specifically stating NYC, they say NY.NYC does not speak or pass laws for the rest of the State.I wish some of the dealers/manufacturers would have put a bit more thought or investigated a little deeper into the facts before banning all of NY of sale and warranty service. Thanks for the help.

Which manufactures have banned or are unwilling to provide warranty service to residents of NYC or NYS?

I know some retailers and individuals won't ship to NYC / NY but I haven't heard of any manufactures refusing warranty service. This is very troubling indeed.

The NYC District Attorney Cyrus Vance is the reason. Many companies across the board feel the same way, given the wy the economy has been slow to get rolling again.

Moving to Knife Laws s this topic is more suitable for discussion there.

I'm pretty sure they knew exactly what they were doing.

IMO, it's a way to punish people so they will learn to elect people who won't let this happen.

In other words, DA Vance committed extortion and should face the consequences for having done so. OP - why assume this is an oversight on the part of knife companies? In their place, I would refuse to do business with the state of New York as well.

It is extortion and intimidation and why they are being sued!

Kniferights has filed a lawsuit challenging the way NYC and the DA have chosen to interpret and apply the state law.

They are making a strong argument and I hope they win! You can see a copy of the suit on their web site.

Because the issue with NYC and the City DA has nothing to do with the much larger portion of NY State. It's like saying they shoudln't do business with California because San Fransico has a knife ban.

This has been beat to death, but even thought Vance is the NYC DA, he is using STATE LAW as the basis for his actions ( right or wrong), and therefore many dealers fear another DA within the state could follow his path at any given time....Get it guys?
