Stumbled across the site while looking for a used ZT 0770CF. Noticed one here from an older ad and I signed up.

I can not figure out how to send a PM or conversation as I guess they are called here.

I read something about having to have a membership to start one. Is this correct?

I figured I could just post my questions in the original FS thread but what if we came to a deal? Am I correct in assuming that one of us would have to post our contact info in that public thread as I can not send or receive "conversations"?

You can freely post on a persons profile wall but a private message conversation requires a paid membership level.

Are those visible to anyone or just that person? Can I go to anyone's profile wall and see all the posts there?

I see. So for any people wondering the same thing in the future;

There is no way to have private correspondence with someone else unless you are a paid member.

Not everybody allows profile messages - that is a feature that can be de-selected or limited.
If private communication is desired; one party must post his/her info. Generally, it is edited out once communication is established. Some people change the format slightly - xxx (dot) yyyyy (at) gmail (dot) com -

Also to note, member profiles and Profile Messages are only visible to people that have registered on this site. So if choose not get a paid membership, posting a Profile Message is better than posting email addresses in a thread. While both can be edited out later, threads are visible to anyone browsing the internet.

It just seemed odd to me and I want led to make sure I understood it correctly.

Isn't that how dating sites work? You have to pay to contact?

Bonus points to whomever finds the person I posted a profile message to about there knife for sale.

If I remember correctly, the default for who can view member profiles was All Visitors. I know mine is currently set for Members Only; but I adjusted my privacy settings...and some people limit, or deselect that option, as well. As I type this, I think I recall that topic coming up in a thread after the platform change; so its possible the default was changed.

It’s not free to run this website. Paid membership has its privileges. If you plan on sticking around, might be worth a membership. ;)

I completely understand. Not my forum, not my rules. I just thought it was a bit odd and maybe I was missing something.

Nah, the payment is not so you can contact someone, the payment is for privacy. Free contact is fine and allowed, it’s just public knowledge.

I didn't care enough to look... my point was to show that profile messages are not even a little bit private, and can be scanned on a broad scale. Personally, I don't want people posting on my profile; so I disabled that feature.

Now that we have established everyone can see my offer, was that a decent offer?

I'm not a high-end knife guy but I figured 20% off asking price isn't even a decent after Christmas sale.
