Hi I was just about to purchase from my UK supplier an RC3, the knife being advertised as "Ontario RC3" but pictured with the RAT cutlery triangle in the middle of the blade, the steel being 1095 I ran a quick check on Ontario and RAT sites and see there is a serious falling out.

I am concerned by reports of poor quality from Ontario and do not wish to end up purchasing a sub standard knife can you advise me on the following:

a) Is a knife bearing the RAT triangle likely to be from before quality issues appeared

b) How will I know if a knife RC3 or RC4 is an Ontario or RAT (approved) knife

c)is the RC3 currently produced in 1095 or D2

I have followed RAT site links to international suppliers but there were non in the UK are you aware of any as by the time UK tax is added to shipping costs it would be very expensive for me to import from the US.

I'd be grateful for any help as untill I read about the ongoing issues I thought I had found in the RC3 and RC4 the perfect camping and survival knives.

A knife that has "RC" on the blade is produced by Rat Cutlery. A blade that has "RAT" on the blade is produced by Ontario.

Rat Cutlery only produces knives in 1095.

So if they're selling "RC#" (either 3s or 4s) those should be Rat Cutlery (if it's not, then they are misinforming on their website and you should get a refund).

I use a RC4 for camping, and yes, imo it's perfect :D

Thanks again to BoxANT, I did purchase the RC3,plain edge, and am so pleased I did, it looks good, fits my hand like a glove did a perfect job of boning a shoulder of lamb & (after a wash) still easily sliced a very ripe tomato (my test of a sharp knife) one big problem though.... now I really want an RC4 to complement it.

The only problem I see with getting an RC-4; is now you got to find something tuffer than a lamb to butcher up:D

Old Ross, thanks for the post and for using our knives.
