Are these not as high quality as the other spydercos? Are they not really spydercos? Are they good quality, decent or...less? I like the cross bill. They seem pretty simple, edc knives. I wouldn't mind handling but don't think my dealer will have any. What kind of steel is it? Tough lock?

Angelus1781, read the post from Sal. I got the meadowlark from NGK and it's a very good solid lock-up stainless handled knife. But for me, I didn't like the shape of the blade. Also, if you need to know about that "13vfk45dut" steel (LOL) Sal said "it's on par with AUS6a"

*the joke here is "13vfk45dut" (can't remmember the numbers)

So where are they being sold? Threw spyderco dealers or are retailers gonna have to get them seperate?

I bought my Crossbill from a dealer on ebay. 25 US + shipping seemed too fair to argue about. See my Crossbill thread for more info on this model.
I read that the steel is 440C.

The byrd models are designed by Spyderco, quality is controlled by Spyderco. We are personally working with the makers.

I think they will surprize you for entry level market models.

The steel 8Cr13MoV is .8 carbon, 13 Chrome, with Molybdenum and Vanadium added. Comparable to AUS8 in performance although the steel is not as refined as Aichi's AUS8, which is exceptional in its homogenous structure.

There are 15 knife models in the works and several oddballs in the works as well.

I think you will find our byrd line to be excellent best bang for the buck, IMO.

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

I saw them and was really turned off by the blade shape, the opening hole and the handle designs, I'll stick with my Spydies! But, for the guy who really needs a cheap good work knife, I think it's a good idea on Sals part to get into that arena.
