I was looking up knife laws in Oregon when I came across this site and I read a question about taking a knife to Portland and one response was how libral Or. was and gun friendly and thats where I got confused. When I was going to be in Or. last Sept for my wifes class reunion I called to check what I could carry as vistor and be legal thats when I found out that crime stopped for visitors at the state line of Or. and Id. Well I did injoy the visit and will be moving back to Or. soon and for about a month I will feel naked untill I get my CCW. So I will take my wifes advice and make sure I have my cane untill I can get all my papers in order and even with all the hassel I will be glad to be in Or. near family again

Protecting my country and family from all enemies foreign and domestic

Hi Shadow-Walker -

Now you have me confused.

What are you asking, exactly?

From what I gather, you found out that Oregon is not as gun friendly as you thought; I know that they do not honor the Utah CCW, so I cannot carry there as a non-resident.

I believe you are good to go with knives there.

Well as you say no Utah and they do not honor any states CCW, after my call today there are alot of knivesthat are on the no-no list. I am sorry that I did not make a question out of finding more from people who are in Or and was going along making it a exchange to see how many different ways the law was uderstood but I guess I misunderstood the forum. I'll go ahead and bow out and shuffle on down the road to where one might feel more at ease.

I live just across the river from Oregon. As far as I understand, you have to take classes to get a CCW. My Washington CCW is not valid.
But I also hear that you can carry a switch blade if you want, so that's a plus.

Brother-in-laws son who is in the service just got arrested for having a switchblade on his person, they let him go dropping charges but kept the knife

I suppose if your feelings got that hurt over me simply not understanding what it was you were trying to convey with your original post, you will be saving yourself a lot of aggravation by your chosen path in reply.

Have a good online experience!

Hi Chris -

I am heading there next week - reviewing the CCW laws - it does seem that Oregon is a little more conservative than other states with CCW. I can't say about the switchblade (automatic) knives - I don't own any of those anyway, living in Illinois where it is illegal to own.

I am planning on taking my CCW in - but I'll dutifully put it away when I get to the border; but I intend on having a few different knives with me - not for SD, but just because I like to! ''

Sorry to say that my feelings are not hurt its just the way replyed was not understood and if the case is such that we can not understand each other then I should move because of my way of stating a question. I am old and cranky and way to old to change and I hope that other newbies can explain themselves better than I and I am sorry that I turned one wheel faster than the other. Wish all of you the best

No worries - I am in the same boat as you concering Oregon - so stick around and have some fun. You'll like the forum.

You are surely going to a beautiful place to do whatever you are doing up there - I can't wait to get there!

I am leaving on a weeklong motorcycle trip - and I'll be in the Portland area - so I was researching the laws up there regarding the same concerns as you.

best regards -

Mqqn,
Which part of Oregon are you headed to? I live about 10 miles north of the boarder on high way 97.

Hi Chris

We will be in Portland doing leatherman tour and visiting Kershaw

Leatherman is great. A good friend of mine (and fellow contractor) just went down there and handed over a box full of broken Leatherman Waves and received a box of brand new Leatherman Waves in return. Until he met me he had no idea that he could do that :D
I'm really impressed with the edge they put on their knives lately.
