Up until this morning l always thought that the Jack Crain PREDATOR Multi purpose combat system Hollow handle knife was made with 440c. Today my nephew visited me. He bought something called a Black starr Jack Crain tribute MCS in D2 steel. I always thought that Mr. Crain only used 440c. Could some one please clear the confusion for me. I've been on his web site but he only refers to it as stainless steel. Could some one please tell me what steel Jack Crain actually uses in the MCS and LSS1 ? I appreciate your help.

Do some homework if you are planning on purchasing. Jack Crain has not been the most reliable and forthright knifemaker around there parts. He has a thread dedicated to him based on his actions. As far as the steel, i would not doubt it is 440C as it was a bit cheaper in those days, but not by a wide margin. If he refers to it as "Stainless Steel", then it must be 440C, D2 is mostly classified as "tool steel".

To begin with ; l can't thank you guys enough for such wise advse. I truly am grateful. This explains so much. Back in 2006 ; My Uncle had a Commando Life support system knife made to order from.Mr. Crain. He gave his $900; more or less. It's been 8 years and we never received that knife. This guy is probably known more for his swindling than he is for his knives. It is a real shame you.know; He does make fine quality knives. It's too bad someone with that kind of talent would use it to rip people off. My father actually Owns an MCS predator Hollow Handle knife. How we got it is probably the luckiest coincidence that we ever experienced. He got it in an El-Paso pawn shop for $250. Speaking strictly about the quality of the knife ; it is well made. The reason.l asked was because l sharpen all my fathers knives. You don't wanna sharpen 440c like D2 or vice versa .
I personally own 1 Hollow Handle survival knife - an 8 inch Robert Parish survivor 440c Hollow kandle knife. Very strong design. Took it with me on 12 hunting trips till now. Never failed. Robert Parish was a far more respectable knife maker than Jack Crain right ?

Crain and Black Starr both use the same scam: sweet talk you, take your money and never deliver your knife. I have a true Jack Crain LS1 and Commando Dagger he made for me back around 2000. I was VERY lucky to ever get the knives. I totally believe he had no intention of ever delivering the knives until the legal action started and he found out that through my profession, I had access to all the legal help I needed to cost him a LOT of money and amazingly, the knives showed up very quickly after that. I'm presently in the exact same situation with Black Starr and the crook who runs it, Britt Gudowski. He only has a few days left to deliver an MCS I ordered from him nearly 3 1/2 months ago that was guaranteed to be shipped in 30 days. I think he's actually worse than Jack himself in the integrity department. I know you've heard it on here from others but take it from me: DO NOT send ANY money to Brutt Gudowski or Black Starr Knives. If you do, you WILL be scammed just as myself and countless others have been. If you've been ripped off by him, PM me and I can assist you with moving forward legally. Be well.

Thank you so much for your concern Mr. T. Lawson. But l have no intention of ever buying Replicas of the real thing. So buying a Knock off Jack Crain replica is probably the last thing on my mind. In regards to the real Jack Crain ; what he did does not matter. My uncle died in 2010 out of Lung cancer ( chain smoker) . So yeah ; he never got the knife. My father though truly cherishes his Jack Crain MCS. Me ; personally? The only hollow handle knife l own is a 440c Robert Parish 8 inch hollow handle survivor. There are at least 4 other people online who also got ripped off by Jack Crain. Or is it more than 4?

Oh, I'll guarantee you the true number of people he's ripped off is well above 4. I can remember people from many years ago saying they'd been waiting for over 3 years and still no knife and no contact from JC. I had many conversations with him on the telephone both before and after I ordered my knives. He was always nice and took the time to talk knives and I really enjoyed our conversations. Hard to believe the guy I was talking to is the same guy who kept a lot of people's money without ever sending what they ordered from him. Your father should cherish his MCS. I would've loved too have gotten one before JC went bad. That's the only reason I ordered the Black Starr repro. I know I'll likely never see a real one in my collection. And it seems likely now that I'll prolly never get the repro either after my failed dealings with BSB but that's ok too. I'm gonna make life miserable for Black Starr pretty soon. It'll all unfold right here. Stay tuned!! Take care bud.

Good luck on going after Black Star ; Mr. Lawson. I can't lie to you though. It's not gonna be easy. Crain is 1 man. Black star is an entire company. And you mentioned wanting an actual MCS. Tell you what ? Its a big world of possibilities. If l ever find one on Ebay or any other site ; l shall PM you. Of course the knife will be used. But if its conditions are at least above average l will definitely notify you. Sound good ?

Black Starr is not an entire company. Britt assembles parts he subs out to other makers, sometimes not very good ones. He basically glues together parts to make "his" knives. Here's some reading for you: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ce-With-Britt-Gudowski-and-Black-Starr-Knives
And despite all that, he still has serious problems delivering a "product."

Thanks for correcting me. I never personally owned any Black Star knives so l wouldn't know. First timel heard about it was on this thread.

All that sounds great Carbonsteelfan. Definitely let me know if you see one.

And you're exactly right Sam, Britt's just one sad little man. A con man, scammer, and crook, plain and simple. But it's all good. Every dog has its day!!!

Hey ; could some one please tell me Whether or Not the Jack Crain Life Support 1 knife from Commando has a compass in the butt cap ? I would really appreciate it.

I had Jack Crain make me an LS1 back in the early 90's. Even then it took 3 years of phone calls to get it. I heard every excuse in the book...sick parents, injuries and the best one...protein poisoning from working with pearl for a knife handle. I had him make it just like the one in the movie. It was a great knife but I sold it. It definitely did NOT have a compass in the butt cap.

Hope this helps.
