I just picked up a copy of the march issue of Tactical knives. The Tactical Customs photo double truck page looks like Coopfest 2009. Every single one of the ten knife pics were taken by him. And I know that they looked at more of his because I got an e-mail a while back confirming the info on my pic that Coop had submitted. Not too shabby.

Most excellent. The percentage of my Coop-photographed knives that have ended up in various publications is just ridiculously high. Publishers know quality when they see it.

Coop's photos do make their rounds. There's definitely advantages to having knives professionally photographed whether you are a maker or collector.

I have found having your knives photographed at the Blade Show raises you chances of them being in Blade Magazine.

yo Kev, quick Q here. and sorry to sidetrack this thread, but does having your knife in Blade make it more desirable/valuable?

I would doubt that many will buy or pay more for a knife just because it's in a magazine. However, if a collector is on the fence deciding between two knives for purchase then a magazine photo on one may influence the decision.

Now on the other hand, a magazine article on a particular knife, a cover shot or being in one of David's books or a "Points of Interest" can add value and definite desirability in my opinion.

I would think that a pic in one of the magazines would be quite helpful to a newer, lesser know maker, but obviously not as helpful as having a full blown profile. There are still a lot of folks out their that don't get their info on knives from the forums and a smaller subset that don't go looking for them on the web. I agree that a web site is an invaluable tool, but people have to know that the site exists.:D

I was of the opinion that the publications were going the way of the 8 track but after rereading Snodys business plan it seems I was grossly under estimating these publications.

Go into a big Barnes and Noble or Borders and check out the periodicals section. There is a magazine for everything. The magazine business has specialized it self through the roof!! I think that it is safe to say that we are still a couple of decades away from a paperless society.

Damm severed, in just one day in just two threads you have done away with both knife shows and publications. ;) :D :)

Congratulations Coop, you the man....

I still plan on sending you some knives, some day, some day?:D

Just be patient. :)

Yes, Coop IS the man! A lot of my work has "gone along for the ride" in his photos. In fact there a two in the latest Blade Magazine, one with John
White's best Damascus and one with Criag Camerer's "Eastside Fighter".

Many thanks , Jim.

I remember a few years back when Jim was just starting to tinker with knife photos on Custom knife Directory . He's way past tinkering now!! Congrats Coop!

I suspect that you will have some more the next round. I wouldn't be surprised to see a goodly number of the pics that Coop took in New York to show up in the mags and I do believe you had a few sheaths in the mix. I know you had at least two:D

I send my best stuff to Coop knowing it will pay big sometime. Besides taking great shots he is a good person to talk to and do business with.
Congrats Jim!
