Hope I'm not out of line by continuing this after Gus closed that other thread, but I was struck by the thought of what a tribute it is to a knifemaker's skill when people ask you to make surgical instruments. Congratulation's, George, on what I consider to be quite a well-deserved honor! Does anyone know of other maker's who get requests like this?:)

The knives I get from George are sharp enough to do surgery without any modification :D

Not at all Richard :). (George happened to write me on that one and after thinking and reading it again I agreed with him and closed it.)
Maybe we were a little preemtive in our thoughts, but neither one of us liked the direction it was taking.

Having participated in several web venues with George, I have nothing but the highest regards and respect for him as a person and as a knife maker and I hope to ask him to make something for me in the lines of a traditional folder. I think I may be in line aready, if I remember correctly :).

Just an observation. I don't know George personally, but I've enjoyed both email exchanges and telephone conversations with him and his wife Carol. I've purchased only a few "custom knives" or what used to be customs and are now small shops. In each case I bought one of the maker's standard models, and I'm quite happy with them. But having stumbled on George's web page thanks to a serendipidous post here on BFC I ended up talking to George and ordering my first true custom from him, i.e., not one of his standard models.

Have been in touch with him through the process too, but have not yet seen the knife. George got pretty busy with some unexpected commercial work so I know he had to let knife making slide for a bit in the last month or so. He promised it to me by my birthday though (3 weeks from now), and I know it will be the best present I'll get. Happy to hear about any good news that come's George's way, and hope he's having a great summer.

AH yes SUMMERTIME, thanks for the reminder I might have missed it. I never seem to get out of the shop lately. The last I remember was the Canadian Guild show in April. Just kidding of course but like a lot of knifemakers I tend to be a hermit spending all of my time in the shop getting out only to attend shows. At least the computer allows me to meet a lot of great people from around the world for an hour each day.

Have a good summer folks and wake me again on Labour Day.
