This is one pattern that I don't own (yet). I notice most of them are sub-4". How do they ride in the pocket?

I really like the yellow handled Case (CV) that I've had for a few years. Great for whittling and it carries well.

Also, all four blades are different which is a plus. There's a small coping and pen as well as a large spear and sheepsfoot.

Lincoln was said to be carrying a Congress in his pocket at Ford's theater the evening he was shot down.

Not many congress knives in my collection, but here are two. Henckels fossil ivory bone and Camillus with synthetic handles.

You're probably aware of this but President Lincoln was carrying a Sheffield-made 6-bladed (Ivory?) congress on the night of his assasination. Coincidentally, perhaps, the knife currently resides in the Library of Congress. I've tried for some time to find more about it including writing to the Library of Congress. Unfortunately, no response. Anyone have more info for us?

Contents of Lincoln's pockets. Yep, it's a Congress alright. An ivory one at that.

I am very very sorry about this...I hope you all can forgive me...I edit books all day so I'm obsessive/compulsive nitpicky (thats wy I come here...gets my brain straight)...

But if those are the contents of Lincoln's pockets, he really should have read his newspaper.

Sorry sorry sorry.

LOL! I thought the same thing!

Glad I wasn't the only one, Blues.

Off topic a bit, but it is interesting that many of the "jigged bone carbon steel slipjoint" folks have digital cameras.

Certainly does make for some nice pix to look at, though. (Though makes it harder to buy my first slipjoint. I want a stockman...No! Now I want a Congress...No! Now jackknife's story makes me want a peanut...)

Lincoln suffered immensely from depression and wouldn't dare carry a pocket knife for a very long time. ( Bad thoughts I would imagine.) If he would have just bought a lot of them he may not have suffered so badly, if at all.

Those Bulldogs are beautiful! (As are many of the others, of course.) I assume those are older knives?

Well, if it makes you feel any better, my computer is 10 years old and my digital camera is 1.3 megapixel.

Guess that makes me "old school". (I think I still have a Brownie camera somewhere in a box downstairs unless it got tossed during the move a few years ago.) ;)
