I want to try a congress. My price range is $60. Anyone carry a congress? If so, how does it compare in uses to other slip joint styles? Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.

I went through the same thing a couple of months ago.

I picked up a Henckels 4 blade Congress from Collector Knives.net it was right about $60 if I recall.

Great knife and has been my EDC for a month at least...and my going to town gent's knife since I got it.

I use the Grand Canyon Congress by Boker in my EDC rotation. If I think I need a sturdy or "tough" knife, it's the one I go to. Size isn't too big for jeans as I also use a 4" stockman. I sharpen the blades differently and use one of the sheepsfoot for foods, the other one for general utility, pen blade for fingernails and the coping for whittling or playing around. It rides a little weird in my front left pocket because of its shape, but its something to easily get used to. It's also built pretty solid. One modification I did was to grind the kicks down on a couple of the blades so they don't stick up to far. I ground too much off of one side so I had to make a little notch in the handle so I could get the blade out.

I have a Case yellow handled congress in CV. (3 5/8" closed). If you can find one of these somewhere they are great.

Boker has several versions available currently in carbon steel.

Try to find versions that offer four different blades such as spear, pen, sheepfoot and coping as opposed to those that offer redundant blades (unless that is your choice).

Case offers those exact four blades on theirs. I have been fiddling with my wife's Case medium congress. So far, I think I am either going with a Case or Boker. Hell, why not both?;) Thanks for all the advice guys.

Any of Boker's Carbon Steel Congress knives are great. I am especially fond of the stepped bolster ones (I have a Grand Canyon and a Jigged Red bone).

I have a Queen large Congress in cocobolo.
It is 4" not 3 1/2" as advertized.
It only has two blades, a sheepsoot, and a spear.
The sheepsfoot is large, the same size as the Cattleman stockman.

Solid, and I enjoy using it.
As it is just two blades it has a single spring, as so is quite narrow to carry.

+1 - that henckels is an excellent knife

You gotta keep an eye on fewpop. He's as quick as a mongoose!

Who's fewpop...and what's a mongoose...is that like a Jamaican male goose??:p

Hope you knifeknuts can appreciate that I nearly lost 3 thumbs just trying to pose the knife for this picture. BJE keeps `em sharp. As in "what's that red stuff?" sharp. :)

That's the one, Ford. I use mine for most of my whittling projects when the mood strikes.

Looks good. I was looking at some Case Congress' today, but none yet to my liking. I'm going to have to try to find one of those. The guy at the Case dealer we have here is always cutting himself trying to pose the knives. I have done it once myself on a barlow with half stops.

Elliott, this one is a terrific whittler kit. I have been carrying it since I got it, and have used it frequently, just because it has so much versatility. Before I got it, I didn't think I'd want to carry a 4 blader so much, but honestly, this design is not that wide or heavy, and sure offers a lot of cut for the buck.

I highly recommend this knife.
