Hi everyone,

We're having a hammer-in!!!:D
Date: November 27th 2010... 8-4
Place: The Guilford Art Center www.guilfordartcenter.org in Guilford CT.

The plan: .....A full day of forging fun!!!
This will be a combo of bladesmithing/blacksmithing event.
We plan on making a knife during the day with demos from me...Mace Vitale, Mike Spangler, and Paul Letourneau. I will forge the blade, Mike will grind it, we will heat treat it and sharpen it, Paul will do a handle...if time allows we will try and get a sheath made for it too. Other demos will include...Tong and tool forging with Bill Scheer....Bill is the Blacksmith at the Mystic seaport shipsmith shop, Casting with MICA graduate Barbara Wechter, Hammer making and guard forging with blacksmith extraordinaire Sam Salvati.
Other demos to TBA.
There will be a forge set up with demos going on all day while the knife demos are going. There will also be an open forge area with several anvils for you to hit some hot steel. Tailgate sales and a hot lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers(for you vegitarians we will also have hamburgers and hot dogs;))

Cost: $25.- bucks gets you in the door, lunch, and a chance to win the knife we make during the day. You can also purchace extra chances for the knife for an extra $5.- bucks each. Kids under 12 free. All proceeds will go to getting some more equipment for the forge shop at GAC so we can better teach all the young minds.
If you would like to pre-pay you can send a MO to me at:
Mace Vitale
925 Rt. 80
Guilford, CT.
06437
You can also pay at the gate
If your in, just say so here so I can start to put a list together.
Hope to see a bunch of you this November....it's gonna be a great time!:D

Dan we will be happy whatever time you can make it down!:D

If anyone is on the fence about going, if I finish the hammer and it's successful, it will be raffled also! Or, atleast I hope Mace is down for that since I just made it up :P

Mace,

I'd love to attend, but that weekend and the next is the Eastern CT
Artist's Open Studio Tour.:( Aline's studio and my forge are part of
the tour. We've been doing this for many years, she's the president
of the tour organization, and my shop brings in lots of people.

Have a great time, and pass my "hello's" to the attendees.

Bill

P.S. Just picked up a really nice, small surface grinder, in excellent condition
for $300. Now, where to put it? (not in your shop!!)

Guilford, CT - that's local style for me and I have family in town - I'll be there - THANKS for the head's up!!! It'll be great to meet some of the guys in person.

Hey Sammy, Thats a cool offer!
I really like that smaller offset hammer you had at Ashokan...very cool tool.

Looks like this is shaping up nice....have been getting a lot of interest!!!:D

Hey - do I need to bring anything (gas forge, propane bottles... 50lb cast steel travel anvil, etc.). I can load my 6" Darren Ellis style gasser in the trunk of my car along with two or three little bottle of propane. If I wreck, everyone will know across CT from the boom.

let me know if that is needed. The travel anvil is one of the russian cast jobs but I cant really carry the 250lb job anywhere in my car.

Hey everyone!
The hammer-in is comming along with new demos and demonstrators lined up!!!
Swordsmith Matt Parkinson will do demos on damascus steel paterns and how to make your own steel gravers for engraving and inlaying.

Jamie Lundell will do a demo on armor making.( I find this area of smithing to be very interesting with all the fitting and articulation.)

Should be a great day! Hope to see you all there!:D
Mace

I look forward to finally meeting Matt Parkinson, I have followed him on SFI for quite awhile.

I'll likely be bringing some tailgating stuff too, if allowed. Probably an anvil or two, and I'm thinking my 2nd KMG. as nice as it is having two of them... I only use one at a time =P I never meant to have two to start with, but after getting the first, I ran into a deal I couldnt pass up on the 2nd with 2hp VFD and everything that my first didnt have =P
